How to deal with this kind of friend?

Well that's why I came to the forum for a second opinion. I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. If I let him continue, then we'll still be friends as normal, but the community will take a hit. If talking to him isn't enough, and I report him, that would be 1 less friend I can play with. There's no right answer.

Follow your heart, man. Do what you think it's right, then. We players have different points of view. People giving your opinion is one thing, but you, in the end have to press that buttom. My advice is first, talk to him. If you want to report him, go ahead. I bet no one here will stop you. He's your friend. Again, do what you think it's right.

I used to heard someone said that the community become toxic because we are human.
Maybe we can use that philosophy in this situation. We got pretty solid reason to blame humanity.

Honestly, what I would do is just let himself get caught. He will eventually. I would talk to him and tell him I don't like that he does it, and like someone suggested, that you don't really need gil for the important things in this game.

I'd also tell him to never complain to me about RMT tells.

So many Lawful Neutral and Lawful Evil people here. .-. Since he's my friend (And he's my friend, it is for a reason), I wouldn't report him. He's doing that on his own and, any consequence beyond that it's his responsability alone. If something happens, the first person he'll point out will be you.

I wouldn't even compare buying gil with thievery, it's on a different spectrum. He's not abusing on other people. He's just one gear in this huge system. You can talk to him and tell him it's wrong to do that. Don't backstab him just like that.

Well hopefully, you're not annoyed by the rmt spam, invites, or general harassment. And if you ever find yourself getting annoyed by it, just remember that moment when you thought about reporting your "friend". Knowing that your "friends" actions along with everyone like him, keeps the RMTS up and running.

This is whats wrong with the whole RMT situation, everyone is complaining about it. But then you have individuals that know of other individuals that use the RMT service. And they turn a blind eye, its their "friend", not such a big deal, doesnt effect anyone else.

If you have real friends in game, if they buy gil, bot or cheat in general. Report them, it effects you and everyone else.

Zero tolerance towards cheating, if i find any of my friends cheating i report them without blinking. And they know it, and the ones i have reported in the past. Yeah they get upset but because they got caught, not that i reported them.

But seeing all the opinions on this thread, its no wonder there is such a huge rmt infestation.

Pretty much this. And your case is probably not the only scenario with the same circumstances either. It just contributes to a bigger mess with the RMT spams on some of the lesser servers (like mine sob sob) when people turn a blind eye or even encourage the act of RMTing.
