Heavensward PC / PS4 access

You know... I've been playing this game on again and off again since relaunch.

I didn't really complain about buying this game again for my ps4, I can at least kind of understand needing to buy the client for the ps4 and all that... but seriously, we have to buy the EXPANSION for each platform we play on?

This seems incredibly anti-consumer, I've already paid $100 for the base game and really was ready to fork over another $60 for the collector's edition of the expansion... but I have to pay $100 for the expansion to play it on PC and PS4? $200 and a monthly sub for the full game with collector's editions and expansions seems like a lot, even for the convenience of playing cross-platform; I'd be a lot more forgiving of that if it was a buy to play...

I'm honestly really on the fence about continuing to support this game, it really leaves a bad taste in my mouth and I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one.

You only need one of the expansion to be collecters edition not for eatch platform unless you made 2 seprit accounts

You still don't have to buy CE for BOTH platforms though. You only need one CE for either, and a standard for the other.

(Assuming you only play the one account on both that is.)

No one is forcing you to play it on different platforms... this is more of a want and not a need. Either choose one or the other or fork over the extra money. Most folks I know that do play on different platforms pay the launch price to buy it on the platform they play the most on right away, then wait until it becomes cheaper later to purchase it for the secondary platform.

No one is forcing anything, and the ones that pay twice do so because they don't have another choice. Because some will accept it doesn't make it any less of a bad business practice.

People who pay twice do so because they want the luxury of playing the same account on two entirely different platforms.

The system is built for people to pick their platform and roll with it. Just because you want to play it on your laptop while out and about while also using your PS4 at home does not mean SE should simply give it to you out of the kindness of their heart.
You're also failing to understand the sheer development effort that goes into porting a game from one platform to another.
Ever wondered why PC ports are often horrible broken messes compared to their original PS/Xbox versions? Or for that matter why it often takes an entire Development Studio to make said port?

Thats time and money SE sank into making it crossplatform, its entirely normal for the company to charge separately for that.
If i could use a PC code to play on PS4, i could pick up the game for half the cost of the PS4 version and play it on PS4 exclusively anyway.
A quick google shows that Steam has ARR for $19.99 while the PS4 version is $47.95. Digital CE on Steam is $39.95 while the PS4 Digital CE is $69.95.

Now who in their right mind would pay the PS4 prices when they could get the PC code for nearly 50% off and have it work on their PS4 anyway?

To add onto that; no one would, and then that would mean Sony would be allowing for FFXIV to be downloaded through and played through their PSN (for free), with no PS+ required, out of the kindness of their hearts. Given that they're already allowing for FFXIV to not require PS+ to access it, it seems a bit much to also expect them to not want a cut of a game they've licensed for play on their own platform, along with any content warranting a separate sale, which would be the case if everyone was buying the PC version for their PS4 access.

PC codes often go for less than sub price.. I main ps4 and picked up my PC code for $10 (so was like a $2 discount on my sub that month). I preordered heavensward for ps4 and may pick it up for ps4 later if it goes on sale. Then again, playing on my laptop is pure misery, so I mainly just use it for very easy stuff when traveling.

Licensing man. Just because SE own the game doesn't mean they can just walk into any platform providers office and say "My game is now on your platform, deal with it and support it no matter what I do or say". They have to go through the ordeal of working out all the licensing agreements for literally every platform; Sony (PS3, PS4), Microsoft to some degree (Windows), Apple to some degree (Mac), Valve (Steam), and whatever other platform they release it on. As such, every platform/company is going to want their own cut of the profits. The same goes for the release of expansion packs.

I've paid for the CE original game, 1 1/2 years of subscription time, and the CE of the expo for my PS4, and I would pay it again it I had to switch to another platform. Nothing is free, and trust me, it's not anti-consumer.

Would you expect to buy The Witcher III for PS4 and then expect Projekt RED to give you a free copy of the game for the XBone and PC just because you wanted it for those platforms too. Or if they released paid expansions, would you really expect them to say "oh you bought it on the PS4, have it on the Xbone and PC for free as well". No, I highly doubt it.
