That last bit sounds very interesting! end game content = yum!
To put it simply, the road will become wider, but to reach the top, there will be trial-and-error, a degree of difficulty, and resilience required on the part of the crafter. Similar to the battle classes, we are aiming to have end-game style content for crafters and gatherers.
Not if new recipes are being added into the game that have lower ingredient/item totals, which I are IRC. Parts are tedious, as long as we have new recipes added in to take the place of these for grinding good riddance. This is great, Bayohne. It sounds awesome actually, but can we address the removal of parts? I mean, a lot of craft classes are going to get completely screwed by the blanket removal of those grind recipes. Just off the top of my head there is ARM, CRP, TAN, and WVR that are going to have a VERY hard time leveling now. How will this be addressed?
That's what it sounds like to me too now, and that makes sense. Making a Dodore doublet should still be an involved process, but 20 steps to make a level 1 tunic is kind of absurd. I'm totally OK with this if it's just removing parts from the simple stuff at lower levels where it doesn't make sense to spend an hour crafting a single piece of gear.
Also giving crafters their own endgame content would more than make up for lack of complexity overall. Even if I'm not huge into crafting myself I hope this game continues to be one where people who enjoy crafting come to play, because it's something FFXIV offers above the typical MMO.

Strangely enough parts are not so tedious to make when you mass produce them.
Same goes with finished items, oddly.
I wonder why nowadays near everything we make irl is mass produced?
Here is what a friend of mine said in support of these changes:

If it is true that new recipes will take the place of the part recipes, meaning same level and grindable, then I have no problem with that. But, if that happens, aren't they essentially still parts, just a rose by another name? I'm not so sure that is going to happen. However, they might rearrange recipes and change the levels. Either way, that would be fine with me and I would no longer take issue with it.
Your friend's logic is flawed and he is also arrogant for assuming the minds of others. The reason there is no low level gear is because all you need to do is blink and you are post 20 and because there is no profit in it. With limited market space, crafters are going to sell the things that make them the most money.

I agree with you somewhat on the causes, but not entirely. My wvr is 12. I can make some lower leveled gear. I did actually... but it took a long time. It sold quite fast, so there is a demand for it. But I priced it low enough so that a noob could actually afford it, meaning if I had done ANYTHING other than make those clothes (given the time it took) I would have made 10 times as much gil.Your friend's logic is flawed and he is also arrogant for assuming the minds of others. A lot of that is because of the complexity of the recipes. Yes, higher ranked stuff will be worth more and I wouldn't expect a rank 40 wvr to waste time making rank 10 gear - but it isn't even worth a rank 12 weaver making rank 10 gear at the moment - and that is a problem caused by the unnecessary complexity of the recipes.
I think it is more due to the fact that the rank 12 weaver with food, manual training, and synth support can make rank 18 gear instead.
