There's plenty of context, you're told "Killing [X] will power up your weapon" in some way, so you go and do it. I mean, it's OK because it's just a game, right?If it's really just me the player, where there's no context and just the quest.
I did what the game asked because it had a reward?
Why would I consider the pixel animals and people if I'm looking at it from a player perspective?
Those things are real to the character, but just part of a game to the player.
Don't think too hard about it, now. You are still a good person.
