Do you feel like a hero yet?
A weapon forged in endless battle. Yea, that can be heroic.
    Lol.

I only really look at the relic quest loosely, and the grind can be put on the backdrop.
Like a legendary Monk went across the lands, challenging man and beast alike till his weapon glowed with the resolve of his/her fallen foes.

    Something like that.
Like I said, since there's no context I think it would make more sense storywise to believe there was.

The beasts could be those that attacked you in the journey or humanoids were fighting a town you came upon during that journey.
I don't really RP, but if I were to consider the relic quest in the story it would have some internal lore context or be disregarding as just part of the game.

If it's really just me the player, where there's no context and just the quest.
I did what the game asked because it had a reward?
Why would I consider the pixel animals and people if I'm looking at it from a player perspective?
Those things are real to the character, but just part of a game to the player.
