I felt that way at first, but once I hit 40 and unlocked shield oath (long as I was careful with my pulls) those enemies could barely scratch me. Only things in there that give me trouble are those Ice Elementals.
For myself i cant understand your dislike of the slow pace. I disliked it to but came to love it. its way mor relaxed and your not so stressed. i come from warcraft which has a 1sec gcd. its a buttonsmashing festival each time.
Story:
Definitely enjoyed it, very good plot. But I do have one major issue with the story quests as a whole that I am going to discuss now, that being: the forced grouping. Let me preface by saying that I understand that this an MMO, group play is important and one of the things I enjoy. I love raiding, love dungeon runs, but I did not enjoy the forced grouping. Mostly because it doesn't really work in the context of the story.
Your character is identified as being this grand chosen hero, the only individual who can beat the primals, etc. It's more like, "congratulations hero, you have successfully reached the stronghold of this powerful creature that only you can defeat, now sit outside and wait in queue for a group to kill it." Every story mission should have given you a solo only option to give you that feeling of being the chosen hero of the land. Solo options will be even more important with the xpac coming as a lot of players will be focused on the new content.
(People who've played 1.0, correct me if i'm wrong)
Something i came across about FFXIV 1.0 is that apparently, when minfilia seeks you out for the Echo, she mentions that she's with a group of people that all possess the same gift, and you're eventually accompanied by an NPC who also has the echo, which makes you special but not "that ONE GUY" type special where you're the only one who seems to be competent enough to get stuff done. Maybe this is supposed to be implied about the scions but never really given any attention.
It's the only way to really make sense of it. Even with the blessing of light, it literally makes no sense for one person to go into a fire pit with Ifrit, or duel Titan, or fight the hurricane-spawning Garuda 1v1 and actually win. Actually i think alot of things that happen in the story are much easier to swallow if you just assume that anytime someone's praising you, they're also indirectly praising about 17 other scions with the echo, and you're just one who always manages to pull through.
Also, congrats on enjoying your PLD run to 50. I've played most of the DoW/DoM classes and PLD was easily the most boring thus far.

I completely disagree with solo story content. While it would be more convenient, we are never described as a one man army or any of the like. We are a leader among the people known as adventurers. We aren't the only ones with Hydaelyn's blessing, we are just the one that happened to become the figure head.
As for plds stun. They talked specifically about that some time ago. It is on gcd so that it is different from warriors stun. Paladins can stun lock three times in a row whereas warriors can only stun once every 20 seconds or whatever the cool down is. Warriors have to be selective with their stun and plds need to anticipate their use of stun.

Coming from 1.0, it never occurred to me that they didn't mention the scions having the echo in 2.0. I know they mention minfilia because she gets messages from Hydaelyn, but I don't remember the rest getting mentioned.(People who've played 1.0, correct me if i'm wrong)
