Even so, there's no reason to spam in game. Like back when WoW was huge people joined a site to sell gold/item/accounts. (Well, I always saw posts like when I would buy old games off craigslist atleast)
I don't care that people buy/sell stuff since they have a chance to get banned and it has nothing to do with me, but once I start getting harrassed in game to buy stuff to the point my blacklist gets full, I'm gonna be a littttle pissy.

I don't understand what you mean. There is a reason for them to spam in game, its to get sales. Or to fish people into there site so that they will buy gil. And you should care that people buy it, because that is why that market even exists(and why its effecting you). I'm sorry your pissy, we've all had to deal with this problem. Everyone on any MMO has to deal with the problem. All the devs of all those MMOs have to deal with that problem the best way they can. I don't let it bother me because I've been into mmo's for over 15 years. Not nearly as long as some, but I've had enough exposure to RMT to know it's not something to get your panties in a wad about. Do what you can to deal with it on your end. You say your blist is full. Chances are you can remove just about all of those. I don't even bother to blist them anymore because they are suspended/banned so quickly that I don't get tells from the same RMT more then once anymore. And SE will do what they can on their end. It's a constant struggle for everyone involved. But the blame of it all rests squarely on the ones buying into it. So instead of all these thousands of threads screaming at SE to do something. #1 they are doing everything they can, rest assured. #2 let's instead make thousands of threads screaming at players to STOP BUYING GIL. Because that is the root cause currently.

If you really believe that the developers don't know about RMT without people spamming the forums, I'm not really sure what to tell you. RMT has been present since the dawn of online gaming and will probably always be present in some form. All the developers can do is try to minimize its impact. The thing is, they also have to minimize the impact on legitimate players as well for whatever actions they take against the RMT. I mean, if you want to stop bots you could just make something like a captcha that the player has to enter before they can gather at any node, craft any item, join any FATE, or zone into any portion of a dungeon that required a load screen. It would be pretty effective at stopping bots, but it would also be highly inconvenient to legitimate players. SE isn't hobbled by a lack of desire to do anything about RMT, they're hobbled by the fact that whatever action they take can't negatively impact their actual legitimate players.

The previous game I played had a certain low-level dungeon that was great to spam for experience. The best way to do it is to get a max level player to destroy the dungeon for you over and over again (there's benefits to the higher level player in the form of in-game items). As the level cap has gone up and characters have gotten exponentially more powerful, the clear times get faster and faster. There's just one problem - if you clear it too fast too many times in a row, the game flags you as a bot and makes you unable to damage mobs or pick up items. It's led to many legitimate players missing out on sometimes days worth of playing time since that game's customer service tickets are only typically answered on weekdays. The worst part is that the players know that the game could possibly flag them, and yet they keep on spamming the same dungeon and insisting that the game should change for them. You'd think after a certain point they'd decide to change their own habits to adapt to the game, but in three years that has yet to happen. People just continue to beat their heads against it and then whine and complain when the game does flag them.

I guess my point is, "fixing" RMT without impacting your actual playerbase isn't as easy as some people make it sound.

There is a huge thread that SE has ignored from day 1.

    http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...-RMT-situation.

Why should yours be treated any differently

I wouldn't equate no dev response as being ignored. Just sayin.

The buyers are at fault, but so is SE for doing the BARE minimum of what is expected from a subscription based MMO.

Actually I'd say it's the opposite, the reason they are becoming more intense is because 3.0 is closing in, they are trying to get rid of their product before the expansion hits because they don't know how the expansion will effect their profit margin.

Consider this, with 3.0 that means if they want to compete they woudl need to buy the expansion, but then if they buy it that's a 39 times x(being the number of expansions they buy) just to keep up with making gil. If 3.0 offers a way for players to earn gil or ina way devalues what they already earned then it hurts them.

I just don't believe RMT activity will get worse throughout the summer they are only being agressive now because they don't know how the expansion is going to effect gil's worth.

It's impossible to permanently get rid of RMT. No MMO has been successful on that mark, though plenty make it easier to report them. Sadly, so long as there is a market for RMT, there will always be RMT spam. It's a sad truth.

But I do wish that they implemented WoW's method their players can use to deal with RMT spam. Right click name> Report Spam> Mute's RMT spammer for as long as that character is logged on (essentially a temporary blacklist that doesn't fill up the blacklist). Still, FF XIV's RMT report method, though slow, is more than what Aion has.

Wish they would do something about these posts too while they're at it. Sheesh.
