Oh I'd love a pup, or some other pet class that's more pet focused.Which is understandable, and I get that. Again, I loved smn in XI and enjoyed the crap out of it. I rather enjoy pet jobs myself. However, I don't think that's going to happen in XIV. This incarnation of summoner is based on the master, not the pet.
To remedy this, I'd prefer they added in a more pet based class in the future. Perhaps beastmaster, or puppetmaster (minus the ridiculous gil sink for attachments lol).

Unless you can see into the future and know what the numbers are, no it's not OP.
Back when it was announced BLM would get Flare, I used to think It was a really powerful spell from what I remembered in other games. Now they spam it 3 times in a row and no one bats an eyelid. Let's see what the Bahamut spells are like live before we start shouting OP, yes?![]()
drg's bread and butter damage up ability is essentially 100% up time now. Mnk bread and butter damage up ability Grease lightning needs a longer duration so its less maintenance keeping it up.
But srsly SMN needs some serious work, of all the kits out there, smn feels the least original when comparing to other games, and certainly within the immediate vicinity of comparing it straight up to sch. The new skills will certainly branch SMN farther away from sch.

But the magic conch shell knows all.Unless you can see into the future and know what the numbers are, no it's not OP.

Holy crap did we really need another one of these?

The setup they mentioned is basically 1 minute rotation of aetherflow casts(tri-distaster,bane,fester/ED), which gives you 3 stacks of dreadwyrm trance. 30 seconds for aetherflow attacks then last 30 seconds for dreadwyrm trance skills.
I do agree I would like the job to be more pet focus and less caster focus, but i'll hold off on critiquing it to much until I can play it at lvl60. I also feel if they give us the pet glamours to say ramuh/shiva/levi ect it will be a nice visual change.

Summoner isn't a Pet Job the only Pe Jobs in the Final Fantasy series are Beastmaster and Puppet Master. Traditionally the Summoner summoned the primal you do AoE Bursts and its Signature Ability then it leaves. Dreadwrym Trance is more like the classic concept of the Summoner than the Egis where we summon the power of Bahamut do heavy bursts damage for 30s then go back to casting DoTs. I hope they reduced the cd for Enkindle to 60s since it's base potency is less than Fllare. In the future give SE should give the Summoner the ability to incarnate summon like Yasyle/Lady Iceheart.
Leave the horse alone!
It's already long dead!
The reason you think this is because, at the moment, XIV's jobs are incredibly simple.
An easy example: SMN and BLM. Which would you choose at the moment? BLM. Why? Because it offers better damage. That's it. That's the only reason. SMN literally doesn't offer anything else that would be beneficial to this encounter, or that encounter, and when it does (in the form of being able to multidot) it's to increase damage.
Why do people use Ifrit over Garuda when the boss is mainly stationary?
He deals more damage.
There's no complexity, at all. Right now we have 3 pets: Titan, Garuda, and Ifrit. Titan tanks things and is largely useless in everything that isn't solo content (except Ramuh EX before they changed it). Garuda is a ranged DPS that....... does damage from range. Ifrit is a physical DPS that...... does damage from melee.
That's literally the extent of what these 3 pets do. Ifrit has a stun that's largely useless due to it being unreliable (similar to Selene's silence), and Garuda has a push back that doesn't work on.... well, anything. That's pretty bad design for a job that's supposed to revolve around these pets, and it's why you could literally remove the pets from the equation all together... which is what they're doing now. They've realized that they've essentially made a job that has no reliance on their pets at all, so they're just giving all the abilities to the Summoner him/herself and ignoring the pet altogether.
Which is ok with me since I'd rather they went in a completely different direction than what they've halfheartedly attempted to do with the current SMN. They're clearly not cut out to design something as complex as a pet class with actual useful pets, so just funneling any ideas they have onto the SMN itself is fine. I would, however, like more than just one Summon to channel - Bahamut is cool, but it would've been nice if they gave us a Shiva/Levi/Ramuh ability as well. Y'know, actually solidify the direction Summoner is meant to be going in rather than just give us Akh Morn that feels completely out of place with the rest of SMN's kit...
But I digress. Maybe SMN will be more developed in a future expansion since they've pretty much given up on the pets, but for now it's at this awkward middle state where it doesn't know what it wants to be. I am judging a bit prematurely, I do know that they talked about reworking the pets a bit so maybe they're adding some kind of useful choice between the three, but as they are now... pets aren't too... special, and that's a bit weird on a job specifically about pets.
