That's a terrible news for any small FCs with just one crafter..

I'm the only one in my FC that would be building this airship and you say I can't build it all by myself?

Time to start working on my third alt then.. urgh so much for armoury system... no alt needed my ass.

You sure are hung up on the Armoury System. The system simply allows you to play any class you wish to on any character.
You do not require an Alt to reach Level 60 Weaver if you decided to specialize in Carpenter, you only need Specialization to access unique abilities and recipes.

Quite frankly, I hate the absolutely antisocial nature that Omnicrafters create. Everyone gets maxed out so that they can omnicraft, and then they spend all day crying about undercutters because another omnicrafter didn't feel the need to charge people out the ass. Quite frankly, you lot are just as bad as the Moneterists like Lolorito and friends. Only concerned with personal finance and none at all about the health of the MMO economy.

With the Specialist System crafters will finally be required to rely on each other, at least a little bit. Even if GSM makes all the Jewelry in the game; you'll need an Alchemist to make some random regent, and sometimes you may even need a Leatherworker or Blacksmith. Players can no longer do it all, and that means that more crafters are able to fulfill more niche markets, and that leads to a much more healthy economy overall.

It looks like we will get skills up to 55, probably a couple generic ones that are the same for all jobs like an advanced synthesis and a master's mend III. At 55, additional skills require specialist.

I don't think any of the specialist skills will be required to craft anything, they'll just make it easier.

Also, crafting won't get anything worthwhile (including the new scripts) until 3.05, which will probably be 2-4 weeks after launch. We'll all have plenty of time to hit 8x60 before there are fat stacks to be made.

It's one thing to worry about the economy, but the airship will/should be completely independent of the server economy i.e. are we going to have to pay premium for the airship mats/parts? I hope not. Maybe for the premium parts, I'd be willing to shell out some extra money but just to build a standard airship, I don't want to have to outsource the work and pay people for it. It's a very core FC feature, I'd like to be able to do it independently of other people.

We've had this argument before in this thread. It's quite unlikely that it will make the economy more healthy. The real omnicrafters have the time to exploit markets regardless, that is not going to change. Small time crafters will have less of a chance to invest in markets, because they will be limited to their specialized area.

Yeah specialization won't really impede any of the hardcore crafters, I already have my second builder of the realms, working on my third (it helps that I don't do any raids/dungeons).. If anything, all this preparation will get me more access and more power to compete (soon I can desynth all items instead of just 3/8)
And if SE decides to release anything with some sort of a timer attached to it (ehcatl sealants for example) all this preparation some of us did will skew everything in our favor even more. Hell I know somebody who has 7 characters with WVR/WHM combo just for farming sealants, can you imagine what kind of things he can do once "specialist" comes out?

It basically boils down to, if we have the tools, we'll use it. By presenting us with the ambiguity that specialist may have exclusive recipes that may or may not be essential to competing on the MB, SE has made a good number of us expand our tool chest. Even if it turns out that specialist recipes don't exist or are just basic recipes that have no room to sell on MB, since we've already expanded our arsenal, we WILL make good use of it. Which means for a casual crafter, they'll have an even harder time competing.

I really hope they wont limit non-specialist crafting too much. I wanna be able to be an omni crafter without having to level multiple characters. They shouldnt make it too easy to get there though, for example by making the left side equipment class specific again (i hope they do so that each class will also have a unique look again). Currently, everyone who wants to craft high end items will automatically get in a situation where he can easily be an omni-crafter, simply because he needs the cross class abilities and all the high end armor pieces and accesoires are shared between all classes. With non-shared gear and the specialist abilities this wouldnt be the case anymore. So we would see more people with only 1,2 or 3 crafting jobs and those who really wanna be omni-crafters will get there either way. Its just more annoying with multiple chars.

I have been on a 9 digit figure for a while, but I haven't done much active MB selling since around March..

First, it was to save up 100 million for the FC airship (prediction) then it was another 100 just in case, then I lost the point of it all and now I just think of it as a high score and just keep going at it.. Tbh, I couldn't tell you what I'm going to do with it.. It's not like I'm frugal either, I spend a lot of gil buying stupid things and making vanity gears for my friends.. But when all you do in the game are crafting related, and rarely any raids.. That's what happens I guess..

Probably part of what keeps me going is knowing that I'm not even in top 10, probably not even top 50 on my server.. I don't know why that has so much worth to me, perhaps it's the only element of PvP I can get in this game. I want to dethrone the King!
