The 30%ish damage your Egi outputs is fairly large, actually. That's basically the damage contribution auto-attacks provide for melee DPS and (current) Bards. It really is a big deal. Without them, SMN would be absolute trash for all content.Wait, pets do damage now? Stop the press, this is the first time I've heard of that!
Truth be told though, our pets deal only a third of the overall damage. Most of it is from DoTs and abilities like Fester. Their low recast times and their relatively weak damage will not make them contenders for MVP.
Besides we don't know how long those DoTs last, even with a 15s duration for all three it's still a 550 potency move + 3 Ruins, since it uses an aetherflow stack it'll probably be an oGDC skill, adding another 240 potency you would have otherwise needed to put up dots for your fester. doesn't sound like "suck" to me
How did they "completely rework" the class just by adding new stacks to manage and let us use a stack to apply all dots at once? Spell speed affecting dots is more to look forward to than anything else that has been revealed for SMN today, at least for me.Really? This is why SMN's are upset? You guys don't play other MMO's do you? Or you at least don't understand basic game concepts. I agree with them not adding summons, what's the point? You have a tank pet, ranged, and melee....not sure what you guys want. How would the other summons differ in any way? You think other MMO pet classes sit there and add a million pets? How would they all be different? I'd love to hear the thoughts behind this...
I've been completely disappointed with this class this ARR came out, I was THRILLED with the changes. They needed to focus on completely reworking the class and they did, I can't wait to actually play SMN now and hopefully enjoy it.
Instant-AOE and burst potentiel thanks to Tri-Disaster + Bane, plus a stance that lets you use new powerful abilities instead of spamming Ruin ad nauseam, plus new abilities to spice up our rotation even more, plus not-yet-revealed changes, both to us and our pet. Yeah, where's our rework !
hahahah well said my friend... Instead of actually summoning a primal, he just learns their spells and do them, because summoning primals is too mainstream. I feel like Yoshi is worried about Garuda-egi becoming unemployed or someithng
Summoner as it is now is great in terms of job balance, and capable of doing great dps as well, however it is not summoner anymore.
Ideas
Titan= Tank egi
Ifrit= Melee Egi
Garuda= Nuker egi (increase DoT duration) / Need better look
Ramuh= DoT Egi (add an extra DoT u can Bane)
Shiva= Ranged Egi (bow) + Bind (freeze) stuff and apllly heavy
Levi= AoE egi (place water pool) for big pulls
+Give SMN a Swiftcast only to change egis
"Tri-Bind" still suck if they dont reduce mp cost/casting/increase power at least to Blizzard II level
"new tri-dissaster" still suck if only apply the 3 DoT by sacrifice 1 fester/ bane
Is easy to make every pet useful and valuable part of the team. Dunno why SE cant see it
Are SE too blind to read the comments?? In a small brainstorm session they can come up with simple ideas that solves all the SMN crying throughout the last years I just dont understand why they dont do that ?? Is it lack of information? Do they need more developers???
Yea but...more egis = more egis to be ignored.
Until we get an interesting incentive (aside from long downtime and phase changes) to swap egi's its going to always be one of them, all the time.
I would complain but...I haven't played heavensward yet. Have you? Play the game first please, then complain about it. It will be more constructive, and they certainly aren't going to just go, "surprise! We told you there weren't any new egis but you convinced us so we designed and implemented a whole stable of them in the last month yayyyyy".
Depends on the design approach. And understanding that you might need one more than the other, and what group comps call for.
For example (looking at my chart), assuming SMN were given Leviathan-egi as a Debuff/DPS pet modeled around the fel hunter, Levi-egi would have an ability that debuffs target enemies (useful in PvP to remove stuff like protect, stoneskin, adlo and so on) and the ability to interrupt spellcasting (the way BRD can with Blunt Arrow and PLD can with Spirits Within). You know what happens if that were to be implemented? SMNs could become part of an interrupt rotation for raid bosses. If they were to introduce buffs for boss mobs that need to be dispelled, Leviathan-egi suddenly has a place during those encounters as well. It's obviously not going to make Leviathan-egi a must for every fight, but it would have its place.
Using another example, assuming SMN were given Ramuh-egi modeled around the succubus (the warlock CC pet), it'd have a single target lightning attack and Chaotic Strike (in this case as a channeled charm effect that lasts up to 30 seconds, with a reduced effect on player characters). So if there were any situations with adds that need to be controlled, SMN now has a reason to pull out Ramuh-egi, and would have the option to incapacitate one enemy player to peel for their healer in PvP. Again, not mandatory for every fight, but would have its use.

* The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
* Design ideas:
Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)
Yes but in WoW, you literally use one pet and ignore all else, despite the seeming usefulness of the others. Demo has one pet choice between aoe and single target, thats it. And again, that is a choice purely motivated by damage.
One of the actually more interesting things wow did was add grimsac, where you could sac a pet and gain their ability. THAT would actually prove useful, because then you can pick and choose the ability to use. Do you want a stun? Do you want a defensive cooldown? A dispell?
But like literally everything else in this game, when there is a choice, there is a right choice and a wrong choice, because when it comes to damage there is one way and one way only to be maximum dps. If you are talking about utility, etc, you may have a point, but most people wont' sacrifice (large amounts of) dps for more utility. If its something minor like, saving swiftcast for brez instead of sflare, then yes, sure, go for it. But our summons are not like that. And then again, if they WERE like that, then the summons would be so homogeneous more egi's would just mean more skins.
"BiS" lists extend to summons, too.
I'd rather them focus on making the summons we have more interesting.
