Dervy's got it, in a better way than I could say it so I'll just add something of my own: We basically go up to four primals we can use in one way or another with the Dreadwyrm stacks adding in Bahamut. Said stacks also adds in something else for future updates to SMNs, allowing us to basically channel the primals in ourselves which, aside from using their awesome attacks (without the long cutscenes), will also probably be much easier to balance.

Actually now that I think about it, the whole thing with Iceheart and Shiva may have been them foreshadowing their future plans this whole time.

That's a good point. The apparent Shiva/Ramuh/Leviathan Egis might end up being "Trances" instead. We already know we're getting a Dreadwyrm Trance

so maybe we'll also get a Phoenix Trance as Lousoix did say we could call for him when in dire need at the end of T12

Well based on how the Odin quest ended I think we know of one that would be pretty easy to tie in...
