    However, I’m sure many are wondering if they will have to continue looking at the same egi forever, but we are planning to add a system in the future that will allow you to change the appearance of your egis, including Carbuncle, but their stats will remain the same.

    Did they change it to slashing? I remember it was confirmed to be buffed by Dragon Kick(Blunt Damage) before.
    But I haven't kept up with SMN changes or the Ifrit buff.

    Ifrit's Burning Strike is slashing damage while his auto attack is blunt damage. So he does both.
