Exactly why Extreme Dungeons would be optional.....
The point is for them to be Extreme.
If people want the lighter experience, the option is there (like the current difference between regular raiding & savage).
100% agree, doesn't need to be added to ARR contents.New content with 'hard/extreme' tier already from the get-go.
I'm all in for more HARDER 4 man dungeons but I'ma kill a Moogle if they
re-hash crap 50 thousand times. I can't take it. I hope they don't do
this in 3.0 it's lacking creativity and I'm colouring it 'lazy' at that point.
Seriously need it for HW contents though.

I agree, there needs to be more content that puts top tier gear to the test, besides coil and alex HM. The game gets really boring when your doing level 90 dungeons in level 130 gear. We need dungeons that are level 110 at least. Definately wouldn't mind something like a hard mode of the 24-man raid where the gear restrictions were a little higher as well. Spice things up a little SE!!!!!
Would love to see a hard 24 man raid (guild content) or more 8 man dungeons way before I would want more 4 man dungeons to be honest.
I get nervous whenever lots of difficulty modes are introduced. That's what happened in WoW right before they stopped making as much new content. Hard modes are great in FFXIV because they are pretty much entirely new experiences. Modern Wow just makes a few dungeons and raids, add a dozen different difficulty levels that tweak enemy stats, and insist that better gear dropping means that "content" actually is being added.
I'm already nervous that they haven't formally announced a successor to Crystal Tower as new 24 man easy raid. I keep dreading that "normal mode" Alexander is supposed to fill that nitch, and we will end up getting less content in the 3.0 cycle. Fingers are crossed that we don't wade into those waters.
For hardcore player sure nice with awesome loot esp Mounts or stylish glamour, I'm not hardcore myself but if this available I will go sometimes to try my luck with loot same like I do with Primals (Haven't unlock all yet)
I'm kind of torn. The idea of harder dungeons with greater reward sounds awesome but at what cost? Development resources are a limited thing and to create content like people are talking about means something has to be given up as a result. At the end of the day I'm going to prefer a new dungeon that is easier over a hard dungeon which is pretty much the same as I've run before but harder. I'm also not keen on the expert Roulette being only two dungeons.
The other question is how it effects the reward dynamic for content. If people can get raid equivalent loot in Extreme Mode Dungeons will they still be motivated to do the actual raids? Further, 8 man dungeons that give loot equal to a raid would basically just be raids with more than one boss per 'turn', not really a dungeon.
There is a significant drop in difficulty when you lower the amount of people needed for content. Mostly because there are less people to mess things up. Some of you said PS was hard. However I went in with a full group from my FC 1 shot all the bosses on the first day it was out and didn't really find anything difficult about it. When you can take all people who know how to play well then it won't be hard at all.
Just so long as the boss fights aren't just a one trick pony (one mechanic, often ignored), I'm all for it.
Challenge is nice.
