Most people use 1-shot to mean it will instantly kill a person, regardless of HP, regardless of class, regardless of buffs on. I think that's where the confusion is coming from.Wait? What? O.o If something can kill you with one shot from full health, how is that not a one shot mechanic?
EDIT: I read all the posts and it seems that you argue that "something that has the potential to one shot" and "Something that has a 100% chance of killing you" are two different things. While this is true, it is also true that the end effect is the same. You were at 100% health, took one hit, and then where at 0% health. They both are one shot mechanics.
I personally use it as anything that can take me from 100% life to 0. Even if there is a 10% chance of me surviving, if I die, I tend to count it as a one shot.
They are part of the Mainstory if a mainstory quest (those with the meteor icon) tell you to kill them. For now they (Garuda hard, Ifrit hard and Titan hard) are only required to be cleared, but not part of the mainstory itself. If they're needed, they're part of the main scenario.

You can't even do 2.5s main scenario quests without doing the original (Hard) mode Primals, let alone 2.55s. That effectively makes them part of the main scenario now, at least insofar as arguing about anything like a difficulty curve goes.
Only at Moogle King the primal hardmodes begin to be also the primal storymodes.

Oh come on. While they are not part of the main story, they are still required to continue the main story. As a result they are part of the main story, even if it is "unofficially".They are part of the Mainstory if a mainstory quest (those with the meteor icon) tell you to kill them. For now they (Garuda hard, Ifrit hard and Titan hard) are only required to be cleared, but not part of the mainstory itself.

Isn't that exactly what happens if you haven't done them, though?
You get up to "Good Intentions", the meteor icon is red and locked out, and you're told to first go do Ifrit (Hard), etc..
Only after reading this thread do I realize how lucky I got. I one shot this in my first try last night. I was healing and it was super easy for me, I spent most of the fight in CS. I didn't realize how much coordination was involved, I'm thinking I joined a preformed group of 7 because no one spoke of any strategy and they all cheered when they saw they were getting a bonus since I was new.
That's somewhat disappointing to hear.
Steps of Faith wasn't a difficult trial by any means. All people had to do was pay attention. =\
which is actually my suspicion as to why they're required...being able to shut up and listen is an important lesson taught by the HM primals.
Really? Every HM group I joined for the first time I went in blind, no strategy was discussed, and we one shot it. What am I suppose to be listening to? :P lol
Only change required is a force reset. If the instance is nerfed then I guess if you can't beat something whine on the forums till its faceroll easy.
