I think DF is meant to be used to go in a fight if you can't get a (full) group beforehand. I want to learn that fight but with people leaving fast or not joining at all that's not an easy thing to do.

I like that "wasting other people's time" thing. Imho there are people out there who would consider playing games/MMOs as a waste of time...

By the way, I also think it is a matter of wording too. I accept it when others don't want to play with first timers through DF, but getting nasty about it? Please no.
Tbh, you don't need any excuses to play how you'd like.. Just don't expect other people to be okay with it because they are also entitled to their own opinions..
If they're DPS and have been waiting in the df for 30 or 40 minutes, do expect that they will be angry to get an unprepared person in the group. You can also argue that it's DF, if they wanted preparedness they shoulda gone with PF etc. etc. etc.. You can basically copy paste this entire thread to support your side and your opposition could do the same. Nobody's reaction is warranted in this case, but it shouldn't be hard to realize why each side has the reaction they're getting. Just put on a thick skin and deal with it.

I'll go into DF groups completely unprepared sometimes and expect a carry, works most of the time, but when I do get called out I don't expect people to be nice when they find out

Maybe it was because of the time (after midnight), but I have a bit of a bad feeling it won't be better if I try it during the day/evening again.
Your criteria is way too specific.. I understand that you don't want to spoil your experience by watching a video beforehand but you have to realize that the boat has sailed on that..
Perhaps if you were doing coils as soon as it came out, you would've found enough people to tackle it blindly, but majority of the player base has simply moved on.. They just want to get it over with. You're gonna need to get a group together for it, it's not easy I know, but you have no other options... You COULD just make a learning group, without tacking on additional criterion, but that'll probably get you that one person who's gonna explain the entire fight to you in words anyway..

Like I said, you CAN just sneak into a DF group and hope other people don't give you crap for not knowing the fight.. Just don't expect to find many sympathizers to your cause, not many will share your sentiment about not watching a video beforehand.
