thank God you do not work in video gaming businessLet's see...
SWTOR released! FFXIV will compete with SWTOR! We are DOoooomed.
TERA released! SWTOR will compete with TERA! SWTOR is DOoooomed.
Blade n Soul released! TERA will compete with Blade n Soul! TERA is DOoooomed.
Arche Age released! Blade n Soul will compete with Arche Age! Blade n Soul is DOooooomed.
WH40k DMO released! Arche Age will compete with WH40k DMO! Arche Age is DOooooomed.
WoD MMO released! WH40k DMO will compete with WoD MMO! WH40k DMO is DOooooomed.
Blizzard Titan MMO released! WoD MMO will compete with Blizzard Titan MMO! WoD MMO is DOooooomed.
No matter when they released PS3 version of FFXIV, you will always be able to call its doom because *Insert supposed competition here*. They also know this, they can't risk it, so they will release it "When it's ready!". Most likely.

Thank God you don not work in video gaming business.
Or are you telling me that rushing out PS3 version will be a good idea now? No matter when they release it, there will be competition. Better to polish it rather than rushing it out and trying to fix it again.
what I meant was, you can't assume any new game to be better than the others just because it's newer
FFXIV ps3 release won't compete with others because it's the only decent one for ps3 & ps3 MMO players are coming as long as it's good
as for returning PC players, they will choose the better not newer one
oh & i'm not disagreeing with you on the "Polish then release" part.

I didn't. I was mimicking the doom and gloom people claiming X better than Y, X will be Y-killer and X will totally be the next WoW. Which X won't. TERA is dying in Korea before it even gets to the West.what I meant was, you can't assume any new game to be better than the others just because it's newer

I see, sorry for misunderstanding you then
I thought you were serious ><

Look, games compete just like every other product.
If a consumer is trying to decide what MMO to join, they will consider how old it is, its ratings, if there are "special" things that make it stand out, how it compares to other MMO's, its potential future, etc.
FFXIV doesn't have anything that makes it stand out yet and probably won't for a long time (it can't until jobs are balanced, and balancing jobs takes months. If it didn't we would have had the unique jobs half a year ago)
FFXIV is already old. Many gamers want to be there from the start and therefore won't join a MMO if its been around for a while. I'm one of them.
Ratings wise FFXIV is screwed. Most people look for reviews online and look at peer reviews. Gamefaqs's and similar peer-review sites pretty well give this game a failing grade. Even with the best marketing you can't get rid of those reviews. and that causes serious issues.
And how does FFXIV compare to other mmos? well SWTOR raids make FFXIV look 10 years outdated. I mean they have full voice-overs, actual storyline in raids/group-quests, a system where you can make diff choices and get diff outcomes, etc.
So how do -you- or anyone else reading this think FFXIV is supposed to relaunch and compete? At christmas they can use the FF name and have specials with major retail stores like best buy to get it underneath christmas trees. But how would the SE marketing team go about convincing ppl the game is good now? Especially when it took one year minimum to fix.

there is some truth in what you said,Look, games compete just like every other product.

but then again, as I said before, this is going to be a ps3 release & that's the majority of players that it's going to attract.
As for returning PC customers, FF fans are coming back if the ps3 version get good reviews.
others will look at reviews & see which game is better then choose, that's how it's normally done.
Again i'm restating, "I'm not disagreeing with you on the polish then release part".
Just saying that this game has a pretty decent chance

Absolutely not but, Americans and humans in general are like that. Everytime a new PC or LT comes out or game systems, phones, iPad, iPods etc etc come out, it's ALWAYS better then the other ones out there. So again Azurymber's assumption and MariyaShidou "doom and gloom" are dead on!
The reason I say that is 1) what I just said about human beings, you all know it's true. 2) Players and critics alike have blasted this game since it's release Sept 2010.
So if you knew no one who played this game and you only knew from the ariticles and forums about how crappy it is, would you want to get THIS game or SWTOR or half the other NEW games that are out or launching from now till Holiday?![]()

that would hold true if there was no other release for this game,
the ps3 release will mean that this game is getting a second chance not only with new players, but also with critics & reviewers
if the second review was good, then I can see nothing preventing people from buying it.

The PS3 release is -NOT- a second chance.that would hold true if there was no other release for this game,

If you release a horrible car in the UK, fix it up and re-release it in the states, reviewers are going to be like "hey you just re-released a junky car, why should we trust its fixed?"
Re-releasing is -not- a second chance.
The failed launch will not be ignored by reviewers or potential new players.
People will say "if it took devs a year to fix this game how do you expect it to ever be good"
Honestly as someone who runs a marketing business I can say that it -IS- possible to turn it into a second chance. But it doesn't matter how good the game is or whats in the game. SE Needs to make one epic cutscene that sets the game apart from other MMOs. If it was FFXI i would say besieged would be a great selling-point. The thing is it doesn't look like FFXIV will get anything unique any time soon. Its a pretty cookie-cutter mmo.
Mind you this is all for the west. im 90% sure FFXIV will be successful in japan on ps3.
Mew!
