I think it was said in another thread that SE is backed up by the Yakuza or something like that, so it'll be okay.

They said that about 1.18 actually. And here we are still waiting 2+ months for each patch.
And god forbid someone enjoys playing and decides to rank some classes to 50... Why shouldn't he? Just becuase you only managed to get to 21 doesn't mean other people shouldn't play and get to 50 because they want to.
I am working. I've got three other things happening on my second monitor while I troll your posts here. ^_^
Any-dang-way, we all know a lot of those reviews for the initial launch, while well-deserved, were still not an accurate appraisal of the game.
This will never happen, because "video game journalism" has been biased against SE for years. It's considered "in style" to rip on Final Fantasy (and Sonic, for that matter), but what a great story it would be if the game is fantastic when SE releases it on the PS3. I can see the headlines now: "FFXIV does a complete 180, inspires idiot bloggers to actually proof-read their reviews from now on".
SE can do it. They're headed in the right direction, though there's a lot more work to do (and they know this). What they'll also need is proper timing. Don't go for a Christmas release. I'd go with February or March 2012, after everyone's bored with their Christmas presents, and it's the middle of the semester at school, so students will be desperate for something to distract them from their studies.
They'll also need a dynamite ad campaign in Europe and North America. This has never been SE's forte, but perhaps with Sony's corporate muscle they could lend a hand.
Check out translations from the latest Famitsu book thing about FFXIV. They specifically mention after 1.19.They said that about 1.18 actually. And here we are still waiting 2+ months for each patch.

And yeah, it's great that you enjoy the game right now, but not only did you set yourself up for burnout, but also for a general dearth of endgame content(which may or may not be the case), whereas people who decided to hold out and leave their characters at low ranks(and I plan to wipe for the 3rd time once 1.19 hits) will have the benefit of having BUCKETLOADs of stuff to do.
There already is a ton to do...more than at release time. :P I restarted and already am wondering how much changed that I HAVEN'T seen or done yet. The story to me flows better, there are a bunch of little off shoot quest like XI had (GREAT!) and leveling is about the same or a bit better but I never thought it too be all that bad in the first place. Removal of the stamina affect is good but I think that the auto-attack option while good, still doesn't work that well. I have moments after a move that it just sits there, I get pounded, then have to go into passive mode and rengage. All the while trying NOT to die. lol Thank the Gods for no XP loss!![]()
They always sell junky cars, recalls, but it gets better every year with a better patched up model =D and people still buy them. People likes to read reviews bad or good and even comment on it, but giving a review on something does not stop people from wanting to experience it for themselves. I think this game will do ok when it is released for the PS3, with all the bad review of this game, and how it is described to be a fail in a lot of forums, i still read a hell of a lot of post about people seeking not just to buy but also to build a computer that would run it. People will also see that they are fixing the game so there is no need for trust to be there just need to see and look, for the people that bought it and left just log on to see what they are missing. I hate the wait also who doesn't but when it gets there i'm there. The PS3 release is -NOT- a second chance.
If you release a horrible car in the UK, fix it up and re-release it in the states, reviewers are going to be like "hey you just re-released a junky car, why should we trust its fixed?"
Re-releasing is -not- a second chance.
The failed launch will not be ignored by reviewers or potential new players.
People will say "if it took devs a year to fix this game how do you expect it to ever be good"
Honestly as someone who runs a marketing business I can say that it -IS- possible to turn it into a second chance. But it doesn't matter how good the game is or whats in the game. SE Needs to make one epic cutscene that sets the game apart from other MMOs. If it was FFXI i would say besieged would be a great selling-point. The thing is it doesn't look like FFXIV will get anything unique any time soon. Its a pretty cookie-cutter mmo.
Mind you this is all for the west. im 90% sure FFXIV will be successful in japan on ps3.
