I'm not fully geared, but I have a mix. I think I end up with around 9500 HP in parties, but I only use WAR for dungeons. From attribute allocations I did full VIT. It was useful while leveling and I can make up the difference on accessories just as easily. This was the easier route for me because I main MNK so I had augmented ironworks accessories or slaying anyway.

In any case, you can mess with your stat distribution a bit if you like, but I find it sufficient to get my HP to 10,000, then swap a tank accessory for a melee accessory (for the content I'm doing).

Go VIT, switch to STR when you feel comfortable doing so.

"Your role is tank", which consists both of soaking the damage and holding the enmity. Strength helps damage, which helps gain enmity, which helps you soak the damage.
Just like healers who can, or are expected to, DPS in their downtime, tanks are very well in the right for finding a balance between enough VIT to run the content with enough STR to output above average damage.

You always want to use as little VIT as possible. Any HP that is not needed is wasted. On the other hand, STR increases your damage output, your threat generation, and the amount you parry/block for.

That's about the worst advice I've heard outside of "don't DPS as a healer".

Build a set of both VIT & STR then mix and match depending on the fight and the level of group competence.

Splitting your allotment can help too, personally my WAR is 30 STR, PLD is 20 STR 10 VIT. I wear or mix slaying more often than not on WAR because OT duty hardly requires heavy HP in most fights.

I go full full str as a warrior and keep vit assesories on hand just incase the healers are not up too it. I read people say you're a tank your job is to tank. And well it's true but it's how your class tank which make it more effective. I learned strength benefits me more not for dps reasons only but survival as well. Blood bath and storm and inner beast plus the monks ability makes it's life easier on you as far as self heals go. If you can manage your cd and off skill cd towards your build you will appreciate how much strenght helps.

I stand corrected by more experienced players. Having said that, I am a relatively new tank, so good to learn.

there is two way to gain force on a war :
Put force with your point, use of force accesories but also use crafted vit + force accesories

To me you can get ride of 500 HP and gain the more force you can , the better way would be put your point to vitality with your level point,
and use ilevel110 craft melee accesories + vita or tank accesories + force.
Choose the main stat , i saw many war advoid having parade on them and try to get crit or deter bonus when them reach the vita +force cap.
    Parade is needed ?
when you get a parade succes it's just luck for a war, you don't get it when your healer need, so i think you can do without it. also pld have more shield swipe pop with more parade on them, this increase the dps if you do it, parade on pld give you luck to protect yourself and also to inscrease your dps, so the parade stat is more interesting on pld than a war.
The War main stat would be for me Vita/force/crit/deter

No, don't just lie down and assume that they're right. You're mostly right as well. A Tank must indeed prioritize survival before damage and if everyone else is doing well you'll certainly beat the enemy whether you're speccing for Mitigation or Damage; the only difference is in the time taken to finish the instance. The Tank who specs toward Strength isn't intrinsically bad as long as they're continuing to make sure that their survival is certain, but the Tank who puts damage before survival is the one who might as well just play a DPS class. This is why many of the people giving advice here keep saying things like "get X VIT and then go STR" or "stay in VIT until you're comfortable with the job/role/fight". As a self proclaimed "new tank", you are absolutely doing things right at the moment. Just keep getting that practice and gear in and you can increase your flexibility

The extra 30 points should go into strength. I would say get as close to 10500 health and throw the rest into strength. This is what Im working with. that would probably mean all crafted accessories but im to cheep with that so 3 ilvl130 str accessories and 2 ilvl 130 Vit will do
