So from reading the responses, I can conclude 2 things: going in with your soul stone but just never using the job skills is the best option (after all, no-one can criticize you for handicapping yourself as they don't know you're intentionally refusing to use job skills), 2: This thread is a prime example of why some call this community "toxic", look at how many people are criticizing the OP and telling him/her how to play and ordering them to play optimally to THEIR standard. Just because your car can hit 150mph doesn't mean you need to go that speed.

I did the same thing a few times as an ACN just to see how it would be like to have a Carbuncle in a 24 man raid. Nobody complained and I got some recommendations probably due to Cabuncle's cuteness factor

Luckily, with 3.0 there'll be an option for people to set themselves a challenge (be at the ilv it was intended, maybe more?)

Hmm... so in looking over the replies I see the opening was, "I did better as a class than others did as Jobs." followed by very few replies of, "You go girl" and a lot of, "y u no job?" (yes, the meme was on purpose, that's what you people are sounding like) I don't do it often because I main Bard and people expect songs so I like to be able to provide, but conjurer and White Mage aren't so far removed that they can't be interchanged with minor loss. Sure, you lose Regen but you still have Medica II which in Darkness is somewhat more useful. And Benediction is an 'Oh Shit!' button, not something for general healing. Conjurer has access to abilities that a White Mage just doesn't, though, like off-cooldown personal healing in Second Wind, healing buff Mantra and several other little things that can make their life easier. If she can do everything that needs done as conjurer, then by all means.

Anyways Rende, Ashkendor summed it up nicely. All the heals in the world won't stop Discordance from wiping the raid if the dragon's heads don't die before it goes off. And there are several mechanics in that fight that can cause problems for dealing with discordance that also can't be helped with healing.

For example, there's one attack the dragon does where it picks someone for a lightning attack. If the person picked does not stack up with other people, they will take a lot of damage. The damage splits between people near the person it targets. When you have people (like several in the WoD run) who run away from people instead of stacking, you get instant deaths that healing cannot prevent. Then you have weakened DPS who put out much less damage, if this is happening constantly, dps will become pretty pathetic.

And on the second attempt at the dragon, the dps were ignoring the slimes. If this happens, the slimes merge and explode and silence the raid. If the raid is silenced during discord, it's pretty much a guaranteed wipe unless dps is exceptional and everyone is aoeing/attacking the heads (it's iffy to expect this in a pug). It also cripples the BLMs in the alliance who are the aoe specialists, and the best suited to killing the heads quickly.

All the times I've gone into towers as a PGL, ACN, THM, or ARC, I ended up being top or near top dps. Would that have been the case if I was in an alliance with players that actually knew and played their jobs correctly? Of course not. I do find it highly amusing that there are people berating the OP for not going WHM so he could have carried even more of the alliance's slack.

People have a really bad perception of classes in this game that's for sure. Either way, I'd take a dps on a class perform at 100% than the majority of players I get in towers that do 40% of their capacity on a job.

So, I was bored last night and decided to queue for WoD as a CNJ.

People raged and called me a noob immediately at the start, before we even start fighting anything, mostly dps doing it.

I raised several healers from other parties, healed people in other parties, raised them, kept my party stoneskinned and fully healed with only 1 person having a doom death on Angra with otherwise no deaths in our party, and threw in some dps myself.

We get to the dragon, wipe twice due to dps (with soulstones) failing to kill the heads fast enough (second time we got slime silenced right before discordance), and abandoned the duty.

Soulstones can be overrated.

I was in your party for that run, not sure what exactly happened since I keep alliance chat off due to all the drama. But yea, wipes were due to heads not dying fast enough, not sure exactly what everyone else was doing since I was on drg and had limited view of the field.

After first wipe I did see a vote to kick you, but since we didn't wipe due to people dying, figured it was /alliance drama and voted no. Don't really see what big deal is for creating drama over someone queing for CT raids as a class instead of a job, after all I've seen a few people do it and go all out performing better than others with job crystal.

Was in WoD again last night, and other drg in party was in full i130 gear, yet she was constantly on the bottom of aggro meter, paid closer attention and she was just doing HT, thrust combo, repeat. Imo i'd rather have someone in pt without a job crystal, that is trying their best, than someone with a job crystal that is only going through the motions.

I was drunk and bored the one night waiting for a pre party to start so i let my fc pick a job/class to run wod as and acn won. No one said anything and I ended up being near top dps the entire run.

The was a Ninja in one of the alliances in my run this morning that managed to pull off their ninja teleport ability while marked and bound for the first bosses Level 150 death. Guess where he teleported too, yep right into the middle of a massive group of players just as the cast was about to go off. Killed both healers from the MT's party and eventually caused a wipe because of it. It was just too funny to be annoyed by it.
I still don't understand how he was able to do it while bound by that cast though 0_o

One thing I like to do in ST/WoD is to play in first person view with HUD off. It's a real test of how good your map awareness is and how well you think you know your rotation (if you're a DPS, that is).

I've done this before. Sad thing is I out-DPS'd most everyone else.
