My example was that all content introduced by an expansion (such as areas, new classes, professions) does not necessarily mean it's gated behind a level wall for that expansion. If we're going with your reasoning, then we realistically can't make any comparisons because FFXIV uses an armory system where one character can be all classes.
At least we dont have to unlock Ishgard with every class. It's a one time thing, and no, we shouldnt be comparing this game to WoW or Aion or any of the other multitude of MMO's out there (i realize it was not you bringing it up and sorry if this seems like me tearing at your argument, it was just a convenient platform to say some things that needed to be said). You can make comparisons where appropriate but this is not one of those times. In WoW the RPG part of that acronym was non-existant and completely irrelevant to playing the game, where as FFXIV it is a main focus of the game almost to a fault (see PvP GC restrictions...). I played WoW during the WotLK expansion, levelled from 1 all the way up, and I still have no fucking clue what was going on, didnt do ANY of the end game dungeons, watched high level players steamroll dungeons while i collected the loot, the only reason I know who Arthus was is because I played Warcraft 1-3+ that had MUCH more story than WoW did.My example was that all content introduced by an expansion (such as areas, new classes, professions) does not necessarily mean it's gated behind a level wall for that expansion. What FXIV is doing with these new JOBS makes sense and I have no problems with what they are doing. As I mentioned earlier in this thread I think three other battles need to be fought and won before people can even think of winning this one. Get the ROG as a starting job and not "gated" behind level 15, Make it so you don't need to go to the guild counter to get your job, and fix the housing situation. While it might be "inconvenient" to have to actually work towards this new content it is not impossible to get and not really difficult either, but look at the housing on servers like Balmung. In the current state, new players will be locked out of a slew of content linked to housing, cant get a personal house even if they have the money, and cant start their own or a new FC and get a house.

While I don't see this changing and won't let it ruin the game for me, I'm pretty disappointed in this start at level 30 crap too. I get it, they're eliminating classes, but why do they have to take away the first 30 levels?
We're going to have tons of people hitting level 30 dungeons who don't have a clue how to play their job because of this, a tank and a healer included.
I just hope there are other restrictions too, like you have to have a WAR or PLD at level X before taking DRK, or you need a SCH or WHM at level X to get AST, etc. at least this way you will have a vague idea how to tank/heal before getting the job and starting at 30.
these are JOBS not CLASSES
/thread
lol... no thanks!!! If you wanna start from lv1 do lv1-5 Fates till you hit lv35 :U
Well you aren't missing any leveling Experience on the Jobs since ALL THE JOBS IN THIS GAME START AT LEVEL 30 ANYWAY! I mean I don't recall rolling a level 1 Paladin. Gladiator and Conjurer I did. But not a level 1 Paladin. I got my first Paladin Job quest at level 30.
It's not the leveling experience, it's the skill experience from said leveling that we need. Otherwise you might as well give a newbie for Thaumaturge and Lancer their job job off the bat with all skills before even leveling and tell him to do whatever, same thing, right?Well you aren't missing any leveling Experience on the Jobs since ALL THE JOBS IN THIS GAME START AT LEVEL 30 ANYWAY! @lv.30
THM: Blizzard I & II, Fire I & II, Thunder I & II, Transpose, Surecast, Sleep, Swiftcast
BLM: Convert
LNC: Thrusts (3-step), Heavy Thrust, Leg sweep, Feint, Piercing Talon, Invigorate, Life Surge, Phlebotomize
DRG: Jump
Jobs starting at level 30 will be just fine for experienced players - as ever it will be hard for people that don't read or try their abilities out; it will be easy for people that read their abilities - and it'll be a breeze for people who test their rotations and abilities out on a dummy.
11/12 skills aren't all that much to figure out.
