So he's obviously grinded out another class before he's stepped into the great sword job. So please give me another excuse why he cannot play another class if he's done so in the past.

For story continuity's sake, I understand why they're gating them off to after 2.55 plot if the new jobs are located in Ishgard. I like continuity. I also understand that's why they're auto-starting them at level 30 - because if you've gone through to 2.55, you've already 50'd something(s) and done the grind - so it's to help get the new job to speed without banging your head on a wall grinding it to 50 again (my assumption). In theorized continuity - your character is already a professional and decorated adventurer and there (in Ishgard) because of the storyline. We're the warriors of light. You'd think we'd have some knack for battle by now (also, I hated grinding the jobs to 17 to get into Sastasha, so I'm glad for this >_> *pansyass*).

But for someone like me that wants to keep their current characters the way they are AND wants to make a new Au Ra that's a [insert new job] (for me, that's Dark Knight/machinist), that means going through the entire story all over..... again (.......and I've gone through it 4 times already. Yes, I know, I did it to myself and I shouldn't be bitching. |||OTL). That includes pre-making the character and then fantasia-ing later.

On the other hand - I have a feeling a good number of new players are going to run to the Au Ra for the badass look. o_O That and Miqo'te. Just because I feel they're unique races (vs the usual elvish, dwarfish, humanish races that most MMOs have). So that would be the easy street/not a good idea if a new player was able to just run into Ishgard, pick up DRK/AST/MCH and not be part of the regular timeline... No one was allowed into Ishgard prior to 2.55, so why would anyone be able to willy-nilly waltz in from the get-go?
Though... they could have just put the jobs in other places outside of Ishgard like they did the Rogue/Ninja guild/dojo. But I guess they're trying to make the jobs unique since Ishgard was so hermitted away from the rest of the world (IE, evolving with no outside influence, nor anyone leaving Ishgard to impart knowledge on the jobs...).

Uhm... this is called "Assuming", you took his love for greatswords. However what you don't know is there are more classes then just DK who can use Great Swords, perhaps he mained or mains a Paladin or Warrior? Who started at level 1, they can use great swords.

Please do not take things out of context as a means to insult others. When you need to insult someone, please use "Facts" instead of assumptions. Its a much proper way to do it, thank you. =)

Maybe they are somehow related to the main character or something - it would simply be a new story.

    2. Inaccessible new zones and new Jobs is not a selling point. That is telling a potential new customer not to bother purchasing the expansion until they finish they 2.55 storyline... which they might not even care about because the Job they want to play will not be available for them until they are item level 90.

    3. A continuation of 2. The new customer might not even know of the 2.55 completion requirement, so they'll have wasted their money on something they can't even play.
What's with you and then ilvl90 business? I had to start BLM fresh out the box just yesterday after pumping junk on DRG I wouldn't use much in the end.
Here's how to become ilvl 80 in a few days flat.
    1. You get your AF gear, buy some accessories, go roll CT. Get Ilvl 80 gear.
    2. Go to ST. Ilvl 100. Hell even between then you can buy some items 100/110/120 from Rowena and co. Do EXP roul. get Acc's/gear for i100.
There you're done. I mean they throw soldiers in your face at this point. Gearing 1 job to i120 is nothing now thanks to the unlocks of WoD.

This where I want to say; You shouldn't be rushing the hell out of this game anyways because the first time around was amazing. It gets quite dry repeating the same stuff
you've been doing for 2-ish years. Enjoy the new game smell while you can. That new content in HW isn't going anywhere. Also, I am sure many people will first read up on an expansion and what it entails and the requirements to unlocks the content.

The thing is, the new jobs are positioned as "additional" jobs, as an advanced form of character development. It was not supposed to be open to absolute new players. The jobs themselves are tied to the main story quest. That's why they require you to finish the main story.

I'm trying to figure out why he is so die-hard on just leveling one class.
This game makes it so you can level multiple ones.
Sure the new classes are gated, but there are so many good other ones to play with.
I just don't understand how someone can say because I love staffs I don't want to play X class. I just want my class.
    It sounds very selfish.

Your assuming they are a certain way, and insults are perceptive. Actually that is a very valid reason, I find some weapons in MMOs stupid, silly and ridiculous. Armor sets as well - if I wasn't allowed to change my glamour I probably wouldn't even give FFXIV a chance if I was stuck looking like a clown.

This is what some outfits remind me of in the game:

Final Fantasy actually lacks interesting class mechanics compared to older games, and doesn't really have a large variety of classes. Some classes abilities do exactly the same thing. I would love some more variety and roles. Of course - that would upset the balance, but this isn't a PvP game.

What help tutorial? I've only been playing a month and i've yet to find it.

Granted, I respect your opinion however I must say that you should explain why your opinion works rather then just giving examples and saying your opinion. I actually explained why its a good thing to support my case - you have not. If you do indeed respect me, say the reasons. Not excuses.
    This guy....

Please, maybe we should go back to old MMOs when they didn't baby your hand like every player was some child:

FFXIV goes above and beyond to helping players learn the game.

Okay so let me try another route.

I UNDERSTAND the persons reasons for being upset. Who wouldn't want to be an awesome new class right when a new expansion comes out? I know I will be leveling one of them and the reason I'm getting it is because wow a whole new world. New classes. yes. We've been waiting.

Yet the reason the classes are gated makes sense. Its part of the story. FF has always been a story. So even though I am upset at this, I understand it. I accept it.
It's an Expansion of THE STORY.

I actually find the "Help" in FFXIV complex and a bit intrusive, it is so complex and the options are so spread out that its hard to find and adjust simple things like your basic UI. Too much help can be detrimental to your game. For example, many places in FFXIV don't even let you jump off or fall to your death, they removed and restricted that freedom.

I liked those games a lot better because you didn't really have much of a story, they were much more sandboxy and had far more freedoms. =) Unfortunately MMOs like that don't really exist much anymore.

I like games that make you create your own story, especially as a role-player.

I myself am waiting for the next big Sandbox MMO that will never ever come out! =)
