The big spoiler in the Heavensward opening/trailer was a huge mistake. (spoilers obv)

My slant on the debate.

I have done all MSQ and love the opening of heavensward. I think this serves the purpose for me in getting me (and others who have done 2.55 content) hyped.

However, my wife plays and has not done then new MSQ (only up to 2.5 original). I can not show this to her, as it will spoil things. Is this an issue? Not really in my opinion, as she will likely have to do the quest before she sees this in game.

My problem will be if this plays in game before people have done the MSQ quests.

If SE intended this to get new players, then its not good, not if they did not and are going to use previous "trailers" and some new yet to be be seen stuff, then no issue

They've stated they're going to be showing this in theatres in Japan, which is basically throwing a major spoiler at potential players. And yeah, whether they centrally intended or not for it to be given to new players, the fact is that it could be what pushes them into buying it (And they're aware there will be brand new players, hence the ARR+Heavensward combo pack). And seeing the major spoiler in it is kinda... unfortunate for anyone who might not be playing yet but is interested.

This is very different from this spoiler, which spoils events that a new player will be able to - in fact required to - eventually play through. When Heavensward hits, new players won't magically be skipping the 2.0-2.55 events the same way that functionally we all were forced to skip 1.0s if we weren't there for it.

Did you missed the part where Japanese game openings are usually filled with spoilers? In this case it only shows a glimps at a feature in heavensward (flying ships and floating isles) and a glimpse at some spoilers regarding the previous story.

Thats exceptionally light as far as spoilers go.
