Don't see any difference to before beside more Frenzy and Slow items.
And yeah, great, they are relevant now. Problem is, that you still got only 2 slots. So you now need more skills, but can't have more. It's not like the NPC became slower or so.

So you basically won't stop complaining until you're able to finish 1st in every race you participate in, huh Robin?
I'm on one of if not the most populated server and there is almost no one doing chocobo race. Does not look like everything is great. I got my super chocobo. It's much less a problem for me than for most other players.
Of course it always "not so good", if you got gameplay, where mainly a slot machine decides if you win or not.
Sounds to me like the next logical step is to adjust the NPC racers down? They seem to be the resounding issue here. All of the changes implemented would promote strategy between PC racers, but when you throw in brainless NPCs that are on birds better than the average leveler, it becomes a bit unbalanced.
NPC racers shouldn't be a blockade, they should just be background noise, the main goal here is for PCs to want to race each other I would imagine. So yes I wouldn't think it too far fetched to expect the vast majority of PC racers should expect to come in first 90% of the time while racing against just NPCs. It was fine how it was before vs. NPCs, but the player meta was kind of lame and needed some tuning.
No you are not, thats just something many people believe because of soul website. Thing is soul only counts registered accounts and there are simple the most on phoenix because its difficult to make accounts on the real big servers because they are full.
As far as item changes/skill changes go,i'm pretty happy with it all, there is now useful attacks but also properly working counters to them, and stamina management is incredibly important.
I'm going to echo the original post though, dissapointed in the exp increase, they should have increased by 100%,i did 7 races after stopping chocobo racing about a week ago,and i've quit it again since patch, purely because it's just such a grind.
I'm grinding through relic wep, dungeons etc,and i guess the thought of another very long grind through racing is enough to cause me premature burnout.
While i went to chocobo racing in peakhours,i noticed since patch numbers of players there haven't seemed to increase at all.Shame really.
Well, for good or for bad, things have changed, and pretty drastically.
Optimal pre patch 2.55:
Foul weather, 4 stars in stamina, 4 stars in max speed, choco dash III or choco cure III and head start.
Optimal 2.55:
Both weathers work now (this is good), 4 stars in stamina, 4 stars in max speed but now the optimal setup is choco cure III + Increased Stamina III given the increased stamina loss from continuous sprinting + bachus wines in 2.55.
There isn't much difference honestly. In my opinion, the only things that were necessary were fixing the weather, adding increased EXP + MGP and reducing the amount of lolmeteors. But I take post 2.55 over pre any day of the week.
I did an experiment with a friend of mine after this patch. We let all the NPCs go ahead and we hung out in the back. I told him to hit me with 1 frenzy water from 100% and see how much I lost. The result? I was down to 60% after it. 60!!! This wasn't seen as too much? Getting hit with 1 frenzy water taking away 40% was seen as okay? I mean jesus if you have a chocobo with good speed and can get out in front and get hit by 2 frenzy waters, you may as well go get a sandwich because you'll be limping across the line in last place. The fact that this patch FORCES you to take Choco reflect or frenzy resist to be a competitor is just dumb, and then choco reflect only works if you use it in time, and we all know there is no better timing than the AI. Bad patch is bad. Please change it back SE.
I only have a pedigree 2 chocobo so far, and placing in the top three at all is hard. Lathered seems to drain stamina way faster now, and getting frenzied is scarier then caltrops (at least I could try to dodge those). My chocobo has heavy removal, but it's pretty much useless since I get heavied multiple times each race and it last forever now... xD
Seems like the race is more about items now then your chocobo.
On the up side with the xp buff I am still getting the same xp in third (I think) that i was pre patch in 1st, so I won't really complain too much since all I am doing at the moment is leveling. I just can't train my chocobo to be competitive cause lets face it, it's too expensive to try and train grade 2 or 3 and not worth it at my pedigree.
I guess I will see how things go. I don't know how PvP is for racing but since I almsot never see anyone else in a race with me the only thing that affects me is the huge 'buff' the NPCs got. :c
No, there is no variety. The frequency of gravi/water is so insane right now, the only real option is the 2 passive V resists. Why pluck around with being able to maybe remove with a calm/ease, or maybe time reflect right. 100% immunity, or bust.
The Sprint-pray thing... such a simple fix, make the loot table on chests very low for the 1-2nd items rng'ing buffs. But they didn't do this. They did it on every slot in chests. So how do people catch up that have been beat down by too many red items now, when they are 0.00 or nearly derpin it along? Hope their gravi/waters they 90% likely going to get works? On these NPCs? Ha, laughable. Cause it will be NPCS, real ppl don't play.
