I don't know where on earth people get this idea from. LOL I play on a JP server and new people come into instances unprepared all the time.

That is really shitty behaviour by the older players. No one should be given a hard time for watching a cut-scene. Cut-scenes exist to be watched. Skipping it when you have seen it before is normal but it's ridiculous to expect that someone doing the content for the first time to skip. We play FF because we love the storytelling, lore and art amongst other things. It is part of the experience. New players deserve to be welcomed and assisted with learning in a friendly way.
I have only played a few weeks but most people I've come across have been great. I have seen some intolerant, impatient attitudes towards new players, though, which sucks. Everyone had a first dungeon but some have clearly forgotten theirs.

I didn't see a picture, but I'm going to try to shift your perspective.
Concerning cut scenes, you can access near all of them in the Inn, as introduced at level 15(?). There's a book in there that you can watch cut scenes on. I, myself, always skipped cut scenes due to me just being a rushy person. I did watch the primal ones, though... I do agree that the community can be a bit hostile towards newbies, I don't think it's avoidable. the duty finder is set up in a way that makes it near impossible to get people from your server alone. It spans to all the servers iirc, and as you may know, jerks are everywhere. Sometimes, though, the familiar players are not at fault, and it's rather, the newbie's fault. I always like a new person, but if they don't ask questions, or they don't pipe up when I ask if they need a run-down, sucks for them. I understand that they may be shy, or embarrassed, but you should expect to be met with displeasure when you charge in thinking you can wing it.
"When life gives you lemons, throw them at the people you hate."
"Well, a lot of the people I know are going to be in pain. Not because I hate them, mind you, but because I can't aim."
Hah, here's the thing folks. This lovely lalafell was in that party with me and others. During his little pity party he fails to mention that 1: he didn't ask for folks to wait. So when we pulled he went on a rampage abotu how he's new and people need to respect that, etc etc etc. Then he complained that we wouldn't let him watch the cut scene. Nobody stopped him, we were just guna do Gilgamesh without him while he did that. As for not raising him, it was near the end of the fight and we didn't need his heals.
So..sorry in this case the other 7 folks shouldn't have to wait for you because you're new. Watch the scene, nobody was stopping you. Come back again and do the fight if you want and you can in fact watch the scenes in your inn room later too. You can't go into a duty finder and expect folks to sit idle for you, get a party, get friends, use party finder or get a better FC for that. Duty finder, as harsh as it is to say, is to get the duty done.
And what they? That was you. I was there...don't try to hide behind pretending that you weren't acting every bit an entitled idiot y'self.
I think if you're interested in the story enough to watch the cutscenes (and some players actually are interested in it) then there's really no comparison to seeing a cutscene during the adventure as was intended versus watching it after in an inn when the surrounding context is missing.I didn't see a picture, but I'm going to try to shift your perspective.

Castrum Meridianum and the Praetorium, for example.. I was fortunate enough to have a group that waited through each and every cutscene (they even wore ilevel 50 gear to make the run more authentic). The adventure was epic.. and yet I hear from people all the time who are forced to skip through these cutscenes (or else find that their party has completed everything without them while they watched the movies), and that just kills me. Yes, in the grand scheme of things these are first-world problems, but we're talking about games in a game forum, and in the context of gaming it just stinks that new players are having their RPG experience spoiled this way.
Honestly, I wish Square would just remove the ability to skip cutscenes whenever a first-time viewer was in the group. Everyone else is getting a tomestone bonus because of the new person anyway - they should be able to stomach some cutscenes in return. It would take pressure off the new player and it removes the option to bully new players into compliance.
Are you honestly having difficulty understanding why a first-timer would want to watch the cutscene AND participate in the fight?
Well, as long as we're pulling opinions out of the air, the duty finder also provides you with bonus rewards in exchange for being helpful/patient with the new person. The flaw is that it rewarded you with that bonus even when you clearly weren't helpful or patient.So..sorry in this case the other 7 folks shouldn't have to wait for you because you're new. What are the chances, guess he didn't think anybody else would be on the forums
Stupid post limit.

Actually, the moment you twisted the story to act as a third party instead of being directly involved, you lost all credibility..
And of course you're not gonna reply, you're probably not even gonna read the post anymore because you know how this will go from here lol.
As far as not res'ing the healer goes, if I'm in a group where the other healer's a liability, either undergeared or underskilled, I also leave him be. Res is such a huge mana sink, if I do it too often, that could put me at risk of running out of mana and the entire party's dead.. In that case, I usually prioritize res'ing the SMN if there is one, and the SMN can subsequently res the other healer if he has enough mana left over. It's nothing personal, just a strategic decision
BTW Claire, how appropriate your signature is![]()

Hah, you're funny, and I was being nice and not naming any names, but alrighty, here I go: 1) You forgot to mention that I said I was new at the beginning. Sorry that a newer player expected that when he explained he was new he'd be allowed to watch a 20-30 second cut-scene without having to also miss the fight. 2) The inn journal is not so players can skip cut-scenes to appease elitist jerks, it's to come back to and re-watch what you did in the past. It's something extra, for fun (which is awesome of SE btw). 3) You revived a DPS over another healer who had been dead longer than that DPS had been. Don't try and tell me that you weren't being spiteful. And I at least can admit that I didn't handle myself correctly. You on the other hand...Hah, here's the thing folks. Either way, this is the last I comment on it because frankly, it really pisses me off.![]()

Lol this is such a nice plot twist :3 what can I say though? Who doesn't love a little pity party right op?God I can't wait to look at this thread tomorrow morning!
And yes, gyson. I can understand why, I feel the same way when I hope into new content. It's why I get my fc or start a story with scene party finder. I have the courtesy enough not to force 7 other people to slow it up for me when there are better ways.
