It was from the "Hunter's Moon: The Curse of Dalamud (09/02/2011)" event

The inexplicable happenings assailing Eorzea of late seem to know no cease; as one incident begins to fade into the dark reaches of memory, another emerges to take its place.

Recent moons have seen the nation in the grip of apprehension at the changes exhibited by Dalamud. Those who have an interest in astrology will know Dalamud to be the celestial body that orbits the moon in perpetual dance. For others the name will recall childhood tales of the loyal hound of the moon goddess Menphina, who would put to flight in a flurry of torn flesh and gushing blood those who meant his mistress harm.

Whatever it is Dalamud conjures up in your mind, lately it has taken on such an angry red hue, even those ordinarily indifferent to the affairs of the heavens have been hard-pressed to ignore the change. Verily, a growing number of citizens are seeing this as an evil portent. With a sanguinary eye seeming to glare down at all creation, you can scarce begrudge folk their sense of foreboding.

For some, it would seem this so-called “curse of Dalamud” has already become grim reality. During my investigation, I came upon rumors of a small company of Ul'dahn goldsmiths whose entire shipment of earrings was stolen—earrings themed upon the twin moons withal. My curiosity roused, I sought a meeting with the leader, one Master Joldewin, who related with unrestrained misery the misfortune that befell him and his two apprentices.

The earrings had been commissioned by the Adventurers' Guild, he began, and were meant as gifts of gratitude to be presented to adventurers for their part in vanquishing the Bombards of the summer past. The earring's design, which Joldewin proudly explained is of his own devising, comprises a single lustrous pearl to which a smaller crimson gemstone, wrought of meteorite found during the Bombard outbreak, is joined in a tasteful homage to the Keeper of the Twin Moons.

The goldsmiths toiled many a sleepless night that they might fulfill the order by the stipulated deadline. Here, and ever so briefly, an expression of joy formed on the veteran goldsmith's face as he recounted the day the fruits of their labor were borne away by delivery caravans. Alas, the earrings never arrived at their intended destinations. En route to each city-state, the caravans were beset by—and I quote—“packs of overgrown white rodents,” who made off with every last earring.

As I sat dumbstruck, struggling to visualize a pack of rats bearing away ornate earrings—four to a crate, perhaps—Joldewin's voice shrilled in anger as he revealed to me the loathsome individual he suspects to be mastermind behind the theft: the Lord of the Rats. Aye, you read true—that thief of legend said to hold dominion over all rodentkind, whose imaginary exploits have served to fascinate and frighten many a youngling at bedtime.

Most folk, upon hearing Joldewin's story, would doubtless be inclined to think that he and his crew, despairing of meeting the deadline, fabricated an excuse out of their desperation to save face. I would be lying if I said the selfsame suspicion had not crossed my mind. Yet stranger things have happened, and I, for one, will not rush to pass judgment. Should your travels bring you within earshot of lamenting goldsmiths, dear readers, mayhap you could lend an ear to their side of the story, that you might discern for yourself the truth of the matter.

And here I take my leave of you. Till next time, may the Twelve watch over you.

    They were made from meteorite

Also it can be that the designer is already dead, or have anyone seen Joldewin in ARR?

Honestly, I totally understand what Llen is saying. I really do. And this is coming from someone that did not play 1.0 at all - not because it was a bad game, but because at the time, I didn't even know it existed. I didn't play MMOs at that time. I see his/her statement as being proud of a memento from a place that he/she enjoyed (at a time in their past) that no longer exists.

However, I do see the other side of the coin as well as a player that just simply didn't play 1.0. I would love if they did some sort of awesome event that brought back stories of the past and some of these items, even if they were newer versions (i.e. re-colors).

You can remove half that sentence and still be disgusted by the concept of this thread.
It was an event item from an common event (not even a seasonal event) that just happened only once. Not an exclusive gift.
You got it from killing mices ^^

I found only a video in japanese about it:

LOL, well you chose a bad example then. Xenosaga 3 was superior to Xenosaga 2, though Xenosaga 1 is widely seen as the best of the trilogy. Also Xenosaga 3 did not kill the franchise. Techincally the franchise was killed by budget restraints and time. Episode 1 saw the light of day in 2002, Episode 3 hit in 2006, had they continued, we would not have seen the series end until 2012/2013. Namco decided to end the series with episode 3 and the entire remaining story was folded into the final episode.

You could also argue that the franchise was killed by shifting tastes in game, the falling from favor of the long cutscene, turn based battle mechanics and JRPGs in general. Those trends have turned the JRPG from a main market segment genre into a niche market genre. I think that the efforts to change JRPGs to match more modern tastes have done nothing to gain new customers, but alienated the existing ones. People that enjoy turn based combat will not be pleased when their favorite franchise becomes an action RPG, People who enjoy the story and pace of long cut scenes in games are not happy when the cut scenes are deemed obsolete, and reduced to 10 second sound bites.

But I digress, FFXIV maintains many of the concepts core to JRPGs, and the battle system although more actiony and 3D than the average JRPG, maintains an almost turn based pace through the GCD system.

X2 was HORRIBLE! I'm sorry, I'm a big Xenosaga fan but man they
went the wrong direction in 2. The art was awful...No offense to
Kosmos922k since I can tell she may really love the Triology but they killed
KOS-MOS in 2...She was a walking water bottle and the story was eh...the battle system was AWFUL. But that's opinions lol.
lol, no offense taken. I do love the trilogy in general, and the characters, but Xenosaga 2 was easily my least favorite. The art was poor, the changes to the English voice actors made me not want to play sometimes, and the design for Kosmos in episode 2 was just plain weird, and well...bad. But Xenosaga 3 came roaring back with great art, and the right voices. In Episode 3, KOS-MOS came back to life.

In terms of art, battle system and for that matter voice acting, story and side quests episode 2 is clearly the worst game of the trilogy. But...KOS-MOS is KOS-MOS, Shion is Shion and Episode 3 saved it all. If there were an off topic forum here I would post at length about the games and characters, but I will stop now since this is probably pushing the patience of the moderators.

Ay yi yi I just had to get myself into an argument over Xenosaga against somebody named Kosmos.. I swear, if we were talking about hello kitty island adventure, I'd have you beat :P

My point remains however, I might've chosen a bad example. One does not deserve special treatment simply for having played a game. You played the game because you liked it, that should be reward enough. Don't expect any sort of extras because you happened to have been around longer. Games already do have such rewards, you don't need to have everything exclusive to feel special.

My point about Xenosaga 3 still remains :P Can you imagine deleting a 112hr save file on Xenosaga 1 and restarting it, then moving on to Xenosaga 2, also deleting its save file with 30+ hours.. only to get to Xenosaga 3 to discover that it's a completely different game? I gave a good 90 hours to get through the first two, which I'd already played but wanted to refresh my memory.. I think I gave it a good 6 or 7 hours before giving up.. My heart still aches

Get more meteorite, from another bombard attack, and just pay one of the other goldsmiths that worked on the design - since the designs were clearly shared to mass produce (the goldsmith(s) toiled for many days). Or just use a different material.. lol (yay, recolor . . . XD)

There is a game called Warframe out there, in that game I have a gun called the Braton Vandal. You could only get it by participating in a beta weekend event they held, the gun isn't all that great to be honest, for a while it was pretty bad, but I sunk hours into making it half decent just because it's a special item that I got for being there right at the start. I would go absolutely mental if it came back and others could get it.

So I feel I can understand where the 1.0 players are coming from, I'd love some of the 1.0 gear but I think it should all stay exclusive to those that were there. It's a big visible 'look how long I've been around' symbol, and sticking with that theme I think it would be great if 2.0 players got a bunch of special vanity stuff before 3.0 arrives.

Why on earth would you want it cash shop then?

Why not have a fun quest or in game reward?

It's literally something different every day that people complain about on the forums. Jesus. You want to be a unicorn? Go play second life or an erp MLP simulator.
