This would be an awesome way to give newer player insight into the history. Unfortunately, I don't think as many of those newer players as you or I would like, will be interested in the actual lore, they will just want the stuff.
As for anyone calling Louisoix "that old guy", they should be forced to watch the collected cut scenes of 1.x on constant loop for a day or two.
I didn't play 1.x, but I know something of who Louisoix is/was. I did some research on Eorzea before joining the 3rd Beta of ARR. On top of that, the artistry of the animation in the main opening video should be more than enough to help new players understand that Louisoix was/is an extremely significant in Eorzean history. Not to mention the incredible nature of what he was able to do both in the attempt to reseal Bahamut, but also in the sacrifice be made to protect and safeguard both the adventurers (including the warriror of light) as well as the Eorzean forces that survived.
Perhaps I am reading too much into it, but in that sequence, I see the emotion and look on his face when he saves the warriror of light and his party. I see in Louisoix, someone who has tried their very best against impossible odds, but is at peace with them self and what they have accomplished. Perhaps knowing that his final act may have safeguarded Eorzea's future. Either way, I have feel the emotion and have even shed a tear at his sacrifice. I wish that somehow, somewhere Lousioix reappears in Eorzea - in our time.
Hopefully my Sig illustrates that I see some of his significance at least.
Um...Xenosaga 3 was far from terrible. Even the least good of the 3 Xenosaga games was so far from terrible, that it resides on the good end of the spectrum. It's all according to personal taste of course, but calling a game that many people do in fact love, terrible, is asking for trouble. Xenosaga as a whole is generally either loved or hated - or dismissed by people who believe (often without playing even a moment of Xenosaga) that Xenogears was far superior - though dismissing a game you have not played is rather a stupid thing to do.
