Please explain to me which mmo's and specifically which expansions that were more than this at launch of their respective expansions. Not disbelieving you but just never seen it before myself and wanted to know who else was doing this to their customers.
The only one that springs to mind is Warlords of Draenor (WoW) that was $50 or 60 (can't remember exactly which). But no, game expansions have been $40 since time immemorial.
That itself is probably a good reason for them to have increased in price actually. Since $40 today is not the same as $40 when the pattern was started back 15 years ago. Adjusted for inflation, $40 from 2000 would be about $55 now. And yet expansions still cost $40.
If we account for inflation and market changes, nearly every single one of EverQuest 1's expansions until about 2006 were as much or more than what we're paying. Most of them were $30 10+ years ago, when new games were $50.
Now, new games are $60 and the expansion is $40. Hell even EverQuest 1 and 2's new expansions are $40 and they don't even have half the content 3.0 will have. Probably combined (EQ2 is only adding 2 new overland zones to their game, and EQ1 is only adding 8 new zones period. HW is due to add about 6 new overland zones and god knows how many dungeons.)
WoW's expansions have also been consistently $40-50. I remember being really surprised at that.
59.99 is the price of the DIGITAL CE.
/shrug He didn't say that in his first post so I didn't really know, did I? It's also the price of the 2 in 1 package so yeah.If we account for inflation and market changes, nearly every single one of EverQuest 1's expansions until about 2006 were as much or more than what we're paying. Most of them were $30 10+ years ago, when new games were $50.

Most recently, Warlords of Draenor .. Before that, pretty much every expansion for Everquest amongst others.
