Although the bonus reward is not available to 1st place, players should get a bonus if they continue to place first. The bonus will end once the winning streak is broken. This will incentivize players to do their best every time!
Uhm, you know, that Chocobo Racing is not so much about skill, no? You can't do much, when the RNG-Item god is against you. That's annoying enough, when you get nuked by meteors at start, but only a lost race. When you lose the built up winning streak bonus because of this...
Must suck to be you! I don't have that problem as I grind chocobos to R40 for breeding, and my friends who are racing in the 200s are still winning.Uhm, you know, that Chocobo Racing is not so much about skill, no? If you come in first, you already get the most EXP and MGP, so why do you need even more of a bonus?

The bonus in EXP for being 1st is minimal. The first 3 places should get far higher EXP and Gil than 4th-8th. Then use the current bonus roulette system on the final 5 positions with 4th+bonus<3rd. There's very little incentive to really try and win other than "The First Across" terribad title.
Side note: Please change "The First Across" title to "Winningest Jockey" :P

It's about know-how (aka knowledge) about the game. For example, if you were in 1st place, but someone was right behind you, would you pick up that Bacchus's Water or Graviball when there's a good item like a Trollteor, Hero Tonic, Sprint, Caltrops, etc as the next item behind it?
This same degree of knowledge is all that you need in any facet of the game, which is why people tend to refer to it as "skill", since that's really the only thing to go on.
Kid. When there are seven NPC behind you, it does not matter if you pick this one item up or not, some of them will get these meteors. Often enough you can't even see the meteors, because you only see four items, not what comes afterwards. Or you don't see the chest at all, because you were too fast. It's about know-how (aka knowledge) about the game. This "take item/take not" is banal. Of course, there is this little you could do, but only in 5% of races it makes any difference.
