The roots of the word " glamour" and its original usage actually meant and refer to things of a magical or occult nature and was adapted to mean enchanting, bewitching in a magical nature. This usage was popularized in Scottish, Irish, Welsh faerie stories in which the Fae, both good and evil, beautiful and ugly, used magic to alter their appearance or the appearance of something to something pleasing in order to hide their/its true nature. So illusions if you will.

So the usage of the term Glamour in this game to describe magic that alters the appearance of something is very apt.

Hah. yeah, not only that, but names can (and often do) genderflip too. eg, "Lindsay" was once a boy's name (still technically is, though I hope no guys here are named that XD)

Fast forward to now and me playing this game, I realize how correct I was. Look at how womanly Alphinaud, Cid, Thancred, that guy from Ishgard from the last patch whose name I forgot. All very girly looking men. When I got Snow's trench coat, I was like "Why all the chest showing and necklaces?!" And look at the men's hairstyle. Hardly any of it looks manly. The earrings and necklaces we were forced to wear before we could glamour them. The term "Glamour!" Also, just look at all the LGBT threads here. This game couldn't attract more Gay dudes and females if it tried! So to answer your question, Yes Final Fantasy is VERY feminine! And while feminine as this game may be, I still enjoy it.
I know you said you didn't read the entire thread, but, you have to remember, that your view on the game is skewed by your country and culture, I would assume most males who find the game feminine are Americans, while many Europeans might not view it as badly. I'm not saying Americans can't view it as not feminine, and Europeans as feminine. Just a more general concensus.

Okay not to sound mean but this post should either be changed or deleted, as it could be perceived as hurtful to players.

I like helping people with their Job ideas, it's fun to help them visuallize and create the job they'd like to play most. Plus I make my own too, I'll post them eventually.

LOL. A simple pair of heels would be nice, nothing too flashy, just dye-able pumps with a modest heel.

And now, rplying to other points made elsewhere by other posters...

Regarding Cid's hair, does anyone even remember Hercules? He had flowing locks of hair, many mythical/legendary heroes do.

Ehhhm... I disagree with him too, but he's just being bluntly honest with his opinion. He didn't flame me nor anyone else in this thread. If mods were that quick to censor posts we couldn't post anything without running it past a PR person first.

That's true, and again it's more of an American concept, names like Shannon, Ashley, Kelly, Michel(not michael), Rene, etc, are all still as equally as popular with boys as weel as girls.

I don't think so for the most part; however, many of the caster/healer gear is pretty feminine looking IMO such as the SMN/SCH PvP set, WoD and now the astrologian.

Are you in France? Anyway, I don't know France's (or your country's if my guess is wrong) culture specifically, for every culture I've learned the language of... there are names that clearly fall into the masculine and feminine category, as well as those that could be both.

You're right that those names are considered feminine in American (And probably British?) culture, at this for this century so far. But I'm going to bet your culture has names that fall clearly on one side or the other, all the same... I've yet to find a language that doesn't have gendered names.

Edit : I had the wrong quote, my apologies, here is the thought (by the same author) I was replying to...

No offense to Americans, and I count myself as one, but our culture is overtly macho to the core. Everything is about assertiveness to the point of aggression, confrontation rather than conciliation, winners and losers, and other overtly macho concepts. It pervades everything here, everything is a competition that must be won.

Elsewhere in the world, this is not always the case. I'm originally from the UK, and although they are influenced by America, they still reflect a more moderate European outlook that is not nearly so overtly macho.

It's funny though, some people seem to assume that in Japan all men are somehow feminized, and yet this is a country with Sumo Wrestlers and Samurai - among other things.

Personally I consider that the Japanese & European concepts of gender and depiction of gender to be closer to a balance point and for that matter more honest. The overtly macho culture of the USA feels like it's trying so hard to be macho some times, almost to the point where I wonder if at the heart of the phenomenon is a fear of being perceived as feminine. Which brings us back to the reasons that the OP's nephew shied away from FFXIV, he fears being perceived as feminine because he plays this game.
