Actually, it hasn't even been 100 years, the color dynamic of, pink for boys, blue for girls, shiftered around the 1950s. And the reason for pink for boys is because, and most people forget this, pink is just a light red. And since red was/is viewed as a male color, a lighter red, ie pink, was used to represent young boys.
I like helping people with their Job ideas, it's fun to help them visuallize and create the job they'd like to play most. Plus I make my own too, I'll post them eventually.
Your nephews are very insecure with their masculinity. The event is a holiday aimed at females. Did you explain to them that it's a holiday? Valentine's Day in real life is also thought of as a feminine holiday. So are they going to not play real life because of optional 'feminine' things such as a feminine event or other? Just show them the bunny girls at Gold Saucer so that their masculinity won't feel so threatened. I'm holding back on the laughs here. Show them this comment. XDI am not intending this thread to insult people. It is just an issue occurred where my nephews were going to play ff with me noticed the little lady's day event and looked up the outfits in the game. Now they are telling me they are not going to play the game with me because it is too girly. Are we going a bit too far in the aesthetics department of design as of late in this depiction that would cause a lot of male players not to even try this game?
Also, things that are feminine versus masculine have changed over time. It doesn't really matter where man-made things are concerned. Gender is biological. Things that look pretty are not 'female'. They are universal. Your nephews are sadly the victims of a societal construct, basically a brainwashing from a young age.

All I have to say is... *facepalm*
Cid kind of looks like Thor with white hair to me. And no one doubts Chris Hemsworth's masculinity....
I don't know, I guess I always just chalked it up to "Fantasy" hair styles. yeah IRL we tend to keep our hair very plain for utilitarian reasons, but in a virtual world there's no such thing as upkeep.
I suppose I'm just used to it from the games I've been exposed to...
But Re: Skirts. Historically those were a very manly garment (Seriously. Roman soldiers, togas, and many many others). 'Robe'-esque clothing is still not all that uncommon in a number of desert regions today. So it doesn't seem all that out of place in a fantasy game to me...
I'm still trying to figure out why I can't find any shoes that aren't hooker boots.
