As a tank, I completely Disagree. MOST people want to clear that dungeon As Fast As comprehensibly possible. MOST people want to clear faster than they are capable of clearing. I'm stating this based off of my experience, at least, in the Primal Datacenter.

I play on PS3, PS4, and lately, while "Using my PC" I've actually been using my NVIDIA Shield Portable, which I don't have a keyboard for.

Start (or options) left, left, X, hold down for a couple seconds, move the mouse to yes, or no. OR Write a Macro.

I have a HUGE Macro I use on all dungeon runs now, that states that I will pull as much as I think is apropriate, every time we wipe, I type "Sry" with the soft keyboard, and I pull less. (Which is also stated in my opening Macro)

Nope, some people are never exposed to speed runs unless you force it upon them, and speaking from my own history, when people speed run something for the first time, and it's successful, they LOVE it and want to do it every single run from then forward. \

    [I don't understand][Please Use The Auto-Translate Function]

Since I spam Macro's at the beginning, if I saw a "?" or, any non-latin based character, I would use the auto translate, even though I am using a soft keyboard and it's slow.

You -always- assume they are new unless they say "I got it."
In the case of myself, I have a soft keyboard, and it's slow. So I assume everybody knows, unless they say otherwise. MOST parties are OK with the way I pull. I usually get full commendations at the end as long as I wait for new players to get out of cutscenes. That being said, I also don't lecture them if we wipe. I am pro for learning on the first run.

    Get some MANNERS*
This is not a bad point. I will again at least refer to my Duty Finder Heuristic, and say most people want to go fast. If a Healer asks me to go slow, I go slow. OP Did not explicity ask "Is a Speed run OK?" But he asked if people were new. If a Healer wants to go slow, they should know to use this opportunity to say so.

    First page of replies handled.

Now, to address something I just touched on. I'm OK with the occaisional wipe. Similar to learning new instances on the first day of release. Everybody typically figures out the mechanics after a wipe or two anyway. and large trash pulls are large trash pulls.

If you are in the minorty while compared to my Duty Finder heuristic and start yelling, or perhaps vote kick, because I'm pulling to fast, but you haven't said your new, and haven't asked me to slow down, haven't asked for anything to be explained, then piss off. (Which has happened)

My friends, tell their groups right away when they are new. I see people say they are new all the time. I tell them, I'm going to just pull and see if they figure stuff out or not. Again, in my experience, most people like that. If they didn't, they probably would have already looked up the video.

Don't assume that people don't speak up that they can speed run. Like others have said maybe they don't speak English. I actually had to speak French to a dps twice because they didn't didn't understand.

What you should do is do one or two pulls and see how fast things die.

Now who isn't reading posts, as I said, never ASSUME a speed run, this has nothing to do with people wanting a speed run and everything to do with the next few lines of text i wrote which you eloquently edited out with your little snide comment.

Check for newbie bonus, check the gear, If their is a newbie bonus, its almost safe to say speed run just got taken off the table, if their gear cant handle it, again, its safe to say you don't do it and you simply pull accordingly.

Yes, you should have responded when I asked in the beginning who's new.

If you do not tell me you're new; expect a speed run and understand that I expect you to understand the dungeon.

Now, tell me that you're new and I will ALWAYS pull slowly and I'll make sure you don't get lost.

it's not because they are not new they can/know SR.
Also an overgeared 1st timer is better for SR than an undergeared alt because it's just trashbasing and most often boss strat can just be skiped

The correct person. I left in the part where he also quoted me as he edited my original post within his stating I didn't read the OP.

In addition to other points people have made in this thread, you should also check party composition before starting a speed run. I have to laugh a little when I'm on my NIN and get paired with a MNK. Tank pulls lots of mobs then wonders why they're taking so long to die. I mean, I do ok AoE damage as a NIN, but just ok. I definitely can't carry the AoE by myself. And a monk? lol...

Some, but NOT all, tanks clearly have the worst attitude in this game at the moment.

Otherwise your statement pretty much damns any tank regardless of how they behave or communicate.

We are not all bad, those of us who main tank generally enjoy the role and don't have the self entitled chip on their shoulder that you get from others. Of course I want to get through the dungeons pretty quickly, and when I see a bunch of fully decked out people in my party I'm going to pull everything I see and go to town, but if the healer is some guy fresh into the ilvl bracket for that dungeon I'm not gonna say hey buddy watch this and run train on him. I think some of the problem stems from those with tank alts who only que as a tank for the faster que times which is why they fly off into the distance before you see a protect go up, and now tanks seem to have been branded as douches.

This is the problem, the assumption by some (many?) players that speed running is the default way of running. that is NOT the case, speed runs are not the default, they are the exception. If you get a message indicating new players - even if no one speaks up when asked - the safest course is to proceed with normal pulls until you get the feel for what people can handle.

It should not be a surprise to anyone that a 4 man dungeon with at least one player who is 'new' to the duty will NOT be a speed run.

Oh, I main Paladin, I am a tank through and through, and I never assume a speed run. Thanks to my wife being a healer, I'm also very aware that not every white mage (or scholar) is comfortable healing through a trash pack of 20 - even if their gear and skill would allow them to. So, by default I start with a normal run and speed things up a bit if asked. But, unless I am running with a pre-made party that was set up for speed running, I will not jump into mass pulls, it's just not the wisest course - IMHO.

But yeah, for any tank who kind of makes their living being a tank, it's annoying when people brand tanks as douches, because we know that isn't the case for all of us. Sadly, a very loud and prominent minority of the tank population is earning all tanks a terrible reputation.
