Will inactive FC and unsubbed player plots ever be relinquished?

I really hope not. I paid a lot for my plot and I would hate to have to afk for a few months due to IRL circumstances and lose months and months of earning gil.

Hopefully you wouldn't care what happens in a videogame vs. IRL circumstances...
