I've participated in ONE for a little while. Killed about 10 mobs. They all dissapeared, including the event giver and I never got a reward. It's timing is poor sometimes, I will agree on that.

Oh speaking of that one time, I was at Tranquil when the main guy standing there was /say that everything is alright the garlean have backed off or whatever... I was on my way to Toto rak after that and I started the mission and then killed and what happened above.

i honestly wonder why not? would that be OP or something? not fare cuz its only one area so only so many get in each time?

It wouldn't be overpowered but not everything you do needs to reward SP.

That's what i thought the point of the event was too. Other than making the world feel more alive.

I don't like being negative but this game needs to get something unique. And spending time implementing little things like this takes manpower away from actually making this a modern competitive MMO.
The only thing this game had unique going for it was/is the Armory system(which is slowly being widdled away to generic standard regurgitated stuff) and the combat system(broken or not, it was at least different).

Now we have a basic bare bones MMORPG, with nothing to offer over it's competitors other than pretty graphics(which require higher end rigs than it's competitors, so this is a wash).

Killing enemies should reward SP if in the appropriate range, I'm not sure how you can argue against that... though I'm sure you'll give it the old college try like you usually do.

The armoury system is being "whittled away" because skills don't act in unique mannerisms still. Their characteristics pretty much revolve around players asking the question "What animation do I want to see today"? You really have to wait for the full reboot of the game to pass judgement on what FFXIV is going to bring to the table, but Square has the opportunity to make a story focus in FFXIV. Yes, SWTOR is going for that story focus also, but the playstyle of SWTOR are so similar to WoW that it won't be a completely unique experience.

FFXIV can be a successful game, and it also doesn't need millions upon millions of subscribers. If FFXIV focuses on an engaging story, while providing engaging content for players I think it can be a success. Right now, we just don't know where the game stands in any shape or form, and you indicated your confusion on it as well in my thread over here:

Adding limit breaks would be an intriguing mechanic to MMO combat.

Apologies for detracting from the OP.

It is an invasion, think of it like besieged except a lot more sporadic. If anything you could ask SE to have a Company chat feature that could give warning of incoming invasions or something to that effect. But increasing said frequency of event wouldn't really make said event an invasion it would be more like a constant war battle lol.

Another problem is that the mobs are rank 25, which suggests its an event intended for low level players, but the playerbase of the game can't support completing the objective with rank 25ish players [aka, there aren't enough around], nor do they award exp for those players who do try to participate in the event. Ultimately it just ends up being rank 50s blowing through the mobs to collect the crystals.

It's a nice attempt, but has some sloppy execution with it. I appreciate that they did it, but they just need to think the mechanics through further in the future.
Actually, if you keep pushing them back up north, they eventually come from the path to the east (leading to Toto Rak) which leads me to believe they are connected in some way. So if you want logic, they are probably attempting to get a foothold on the camp just south west of their lines (which would be camp tranquil).

Also, the mobs are not catered towards only r25. I fought in the event twice and both times the most i could handle at r25 were the hounds. The actual Hyur mobs were well into the 30s. And even if you are at r50, the farther you push back the attack, the more dense the enemies become. I watched an r50 push back an attack pretty far only to be completely overrun by the enemy because he was only 1 person (and i was too low to help)

Funny how a lot of MMOs with events that involve enemies doesn't always reward exp as you tend to the event for a different reason. (usually for pieces of event equipment, special access to something or it's just a fun side event that happens every x period of time.)

So what's the logical reason this should be yet another way to reach level cap?
