Not on a clock. It needs repairs and its getting them. It can't be any simpler than that. Its beautiful and has more potential than anything out there. Just needs the work for it to be realised. People need to stop putting it on a clock though.
Starwars / diablo 3 = no time for ff14
With any luck all the people who constantly complain will leave for these new amazing games.
We'll have a much better community then.
Hmm... lets see I've played EvE, DA2, 2 FF games on DS, solitaire, Did a training course, new Job...
Oh and dipped in and out of FFXIV since it was launched.
Yep its doomed one more game that people will play... Get bored off... and then move back to mmo's/ or on to next game.
/facepalm
People will come and go till FFXIV is in a good state (where it should have been at launch) or its not and they want people to pay... These and only these events will tell if it will survive's really. well other then some NGE style move..
Thier will be much fan-fair over a relauch, if thier smart lots held back for PS3 launch/Patch (lie a whole expansions worth)
That we wont see till then... and at that point most people will decide if its worth the time/money.
IMO at least anyway.
But to answer the 2nd part, once Diablo3 is released I may well play it.
But then i'll probably play Star Wars (old SWG guild is gona try it) and maybe Tera though I dunno, i lost interest in it kinda like Rift so meh..
It isn't just FFXIV that's on a doomsday countdown: it's the whole company. 25 Days left and ticking until payment processing decision fail leads to a massive FFXI exodus, leaving FFXIV without funding. With both of those projects KO'd, and with enough negative press and global resentment established so that future products are boycotted, the company will, ironically, sink to its lowest level since it began working on its first Final Fantasy title.
Who knows though? Maybe they'll rise from the ashes once again when they release their first Final Final Fantasy title.
I completely agree to this.I think the OP is asking the wrong questions. Iys not whether or not another game will ruin FFXIV's chances. To me its always been whether or not SE will ruin FFXIV. SE is SE's worst enemy. They just love to do things their way, and players be damned if they don't lap it up. I really want this game to succede, and I have been since launch in a perpetual state of Hope but not commitment to this game. And everytime the Devs do something great, it seems they have to do something disappointing. Its like for every 3 steps forward they take 2 steps back. Will the game eventually get to a place where I can say "This is my MMO addiction for the next 7-10 years"? Possibly. But the real question is can they do it before I decide I am tired of them making /facepalm decisions and all of my LS members leave me? Patch 1.18 lost me 5 LS mates. Ive beaten both the new dungeons multiple times, and now logging in is beginning to feel like a chore again. Something I make myself do in the hopes the next patch will magically fix my problems with the game. Am I crazy? Perhaps. But I feel I am out of options, and here is why:
1. Console/gamepad friendly
2. Deeper Storyline.
3. Heavy PvE
There is simply no other choice (aside from FFXI, been there done that). So I must cling to the hope that FFXIV will get better and better, eventually becoming a game I can be happy to play for the next 7-10 years, or hell even longer.
I don't think Diablo or any other style MMO's are particular threats as they do target different audiences. I for example can not be bothered getting into any other MMO if not an FF title. What draws me to this particular game as the one before it (FFXI) is that it's a part of the FF series.
If however, another promising FF title came out, i would drop and get over this game in a heartbeat, but, alas, it is the only option and highly and long anticipated one for that matter, hence really clinging to hope for it to succeed.
1.18 did nothing for me personally, while there's a few good improvements, nothing solid enough to get me interested in playing, but as stated the game is against it's own clock and SE's is it's own enemy. They hold the key to succeeding or not.
They really can learn alot from their past experience, sometimes re-inventing the wheel is not the always the way to go. I believe if they went down the path of FFXI-2, it would have been in a much better state than what it is in now. Although they do seem to have finally realized that and are moving towards that direction slowly. Time will tell if will succeed or fail.
Needs alot of patience and time.
This is what is going to happen. First, a bunch of new MMOs will be released, and they will "fail" for the same reasons all MMOs flounder in the beggining. They are almost always, and necessarily, incomplete at release and then continually patched. Diablo III, is an exception, mostly because Blizzard holds back their games to ensure a quality product upon release. Worth noting they didn't do this for WoW because it is an MMO. I'm sure many people will play Diablo III, I might play it and FFXIV at the same time. But they're not true competitors, so I don't see how DIII could spell the doom for FFXIV.
Ultimately what will end FFXIV is FFXIV itself. If it is a quality product, people will buy it. If it is not, people will not buy it. No amount of negativity or optimism will change the actual product, save perhaps encouraging the dev team, so it is only in comparison of other games and their acceptance by the players that FFXIV would in any way be affected by these releases.
I'm thinking once PS3 release is set, FFXIV will look much more appealing to many of the newer MMOs at the time, and will have a lot of actual players to help hype it.
