you could always shout for what your looking for or you know just stay using the MB. People already afk in RT may as well add some wares to browse from them.
1.0 had the bazaar search function though... and it marked the player with the item(s) you wanted.Thinking of XI and all the rows upon rows of people standing around (usually AFK) Upper Jeuno, Lower Jeuno, outside zones of Jeuno, etc makes me reflect on how much time I spent running around one by one searching them. Same for XIV 1.0, except far worse prior to the UI search option... although it wasn't very good of one, so you'd end up searching one by one anyway for deals. You know, that time spent was a little fun for what it was. You'd often come across some good deals on stuff, and thus, feel all right about the time spent in the end.

Those low level item lack availability because it isn't worth a crafters time to make them for small profits, not because there is a lack of retainer slots. Most crafters don't care to waste their time on lvl 25 items that won't make them much in comparison to time spent. More selling slots won't change that. This game is so endgame focused that most low level items just don't have the demand to support a healthy market.

If I remember right, it wasn't 1.0 (launch). It was an update much later that introduced the search function. I recall this being the case, because I remember it was something many of us were asking for.

The fact that you needed a 3rd party website just to make FFXI bazaars acceptably usable is EXACTLY the point I'm trying to make about it being a broken and absurd system.
Also, the idea about stationing your character near battlegrounds might have worked in FFXI, but in a game like this where all the fights are instanced? You lose even that...
