* The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
* Design ideas:
Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)
I still feel this way after 2 patch cycles, they failed to forecast what the hunts would lead to and never really fixed it. How can you not predict the entire server rushing down content that practically offers coil drops without stepping into coil (sands/oil for 2.3, now carbontwine/carboncoat for 2.5) especially in 2.3 when a single A rank rewarded as much tomestones as a single dungeon.
Now we *still* have A ranks that were meant for "a full party" get swarmed by half the servers thats in 2.5 poetic gear by the time they introduced the new logs and die in a matter of seconds. And this isn't including the rendering problem that's still going on due to player saturation. Odin and Behemoth don't get this much attention because their rewards aren't nigh-BiS, yet they have rendering priority.
In the end though, I still firmly believe that things like sands/coat, especially when its in teh current patch cycle, should not be made available outside of coil
Odin and Behemoth got rendering priority because, like the hunts, they were popular to zerg rush. Then the hunts came and now we got Odin Behemoth A Hunt Reborn.
I got lucky finding Nauhn the other night and I took him on in a light party of 4. We won and it was epic.
Even if one is in final coil you still need to out lot 7 other people for a chance for twine
If you're suggesting hunts should not be a communal effort then you've missed the point of hunts. Again, I'm focused on improving the difficulty of hunts and removing griefing from them.Where is it stated that Hunt marks are intended to be engaged by the entire server? Is a group for some reason obligated to inform all of Eorzea of a hunt presence if they are capable of taking it on alone? I'm pretty sure that they are actually working very much as intended. The players actually hunting the marks find and kill them. The players waiting around for a shout sometimes lose out because they don't make it in time.
Keyword is "were". Hunt marks are still having rendering problems despite them being more popular than ever, more-so than behemoth and odin. It was incredibly bad on the first few weeks of hunt release, and their first hotfix priority for hunts was...making it so the B rank weekly wasn't the same in a row.
And buff their hp, we're killing 2.3 mobs in 2.5 gear. You have to practically be in the same zone and aetheryte tp (for places like ELN) to be able to get there in time, even if you were in a party or actively looking.
Making the credit for A and S ranks behave the same way as the B rank marks do would solve this issue entirely.
It would also kill the appeal of hunting completely. Here's what I would do:
* Replace the FATE daily bills with B-ranks. Seriously, waiting for fates to pop is one of the least appealing activities in the game.
* Weekly bills are A-ranks. They give 40 seals to the holder and about 15 to everyone else in his/her party. No reward for anyone else. This encourages civil behaviour, since you don't want to be that douchebaag no-one invites to their parties.
* S-ranks work as they do now. You need the zerg to bring these guys down. The big hunting crowds would be instead focused on popping these things.
Funneling gear upgrades into one open-world activity is the problem. It's mind-bogglingly terrible design. It's a lazy solution to the MMO meta-game. Luckily, I don't care about being the most powerful or having the highest ilevel. So, I don't have to deal with the bullshit. But, for the players that do, it's unfair to them.

I don't bother with S/A hunts even if they're in my same zone now because 90% of the time they're dead before I can even get there. The 10% I get there just in time to target the corpse.
Rank A and S hunts are a joke. You either get the 3rd party software and make it your full-time business, or you pretend that it doesn't exist.
