If I see one charge in, i give them MT, even if I'm better geared than them. Otherwise, I count to at least 3 or do the initiative like doing the ready check hoping I get the point across.

Whether MT or OT, it's still tanking.

My only beef though when doing ST, I sometimes call out a tank switch and see no one Provoke the boss and take the MT spot while my healers are busy reviving the rest of my party.

In some of these CT/ST/WoD instances, the MT job is the easiest job.

Handling the other mechanics is usually much more important than spamming enmity combos and being curebombed. Think about CT. I've done it twice since the patch. Tanks don't know what to do with the platinai during bone dragon or iron giants during behemoth. Those are far more important jobs than the MT. Regardless of iLvl, the tanks that know the mechanics should handle them.

    Absolutely right.
In most battles throughout the game, the MT job is the easiest job
OT usually has more nuances to keep track of, even if it's just timing on pulling adds.

if you mean level 50 content among similarly gear players, then sure

but leveling up, id say tanks have issues the soonest and the most frequently (like around haukke when they need to start actually dodging things [and learn how to dodge in this game, which is not intuitive at all, and isnt explained ingame at all], whereas usually the rest of the party does not)
another example is they just throw you into satasha without telling you what it means to be a tank or how to even hold aggro effectively, ontop of all the dps that have up to this point never had a tank before and are used to just leeroying into shit
though that last one isnt quite as common

I don't exactly have that take charge personality. And, I only have PLD Novus and WAR Animus, so I know my weapons are behind most tanks. And probably most of my gear. Very simply put, with 6 tanks, with 3, with trash, with boss with or without add spawns, I tend to go off of what the other tank does. If they rush up, I'll take adds, or watch for adds that spawn, or just DPS. On a mass of adds if I happen to have enmity on trash, great I keep tanking. If another tank pulls it off, great, as long as the trash is beating on SOME tank, that is all that matters. Much too laid back going into any run thinking I HAVE to tank everything, I HAVE to only DPS everything, etc. Especially those runs and fights where I really know it well, I float around and do what is needed. I just adjust to what is needed.

if i can outthreat the other tanks i will MT because i am just doing my dps rotation, but i try to avoid fighting for threat.

If I can tell tanks are fighting each other for threat i just put on my strength gear so that they never reach my level of threat. they usually just give up when they are complained at for not doing their job.

Actually, I just meant in regards to tanks. Main Tank (MT) and Off Tank (OT). Out of those two alone... MT is usually easier than OT.
But yeah, that would be level 50 content because I don't think there ever is an OT in lower-than-50 content? Maybe that one trial, what is it... Cape Westwind or something? Where you fight that Shield-Arm-Guy And MT is easier than OT in that fight, too.

I think you're talking about tanks vs healers vs DPS?
In which case... each class is only as hard as you make it for yourself. Each has it's own little nuances that only those who really want to know about it will find out and play it correctly. Tanks and Healers' just include a few more socially-related nuances.

    In 24 man raid:
    - if I'm in B alliance, I will MT
    - if I'm in B alliance but one of the other tanks ask to MT (or let me understand that he/she want to MT -readycheck / sprint to the boss room / stand before all the alliances-) I will OT
    - if I'm in A or C alliance, I will OT, unless the other tanks are too much undergeared or don't want to MT

In 8 man trials roulettes I will OT, unless the other tank have Defiance off / Sword Oath on.

In Coil, i always OT and let my buddy tank to MT, just becouse he like to MT and i like to OT.

Also, for me, OT is more fun, with some exception (like the first boss of WoD, the last boss of Syrcus). Solo-tank is also fun.

"I will let you Main Tank until you prove to me you can't" - my raid Motto.

So far it's been working for me. My job is to cover mechanics and keep my party or the raid as safe as I can manage. I would rather be dealing with adds and keeping our casters and healers safe than being landed on by a dragon.

Until, again, the current MT makes it clear they cannot and I have to step in to keep the raid safe. It happens sometimes.

I just go for it as soon as the buffs all land (trial roulette) or right when it seems like the last person can make it within the 15 second lockout (in Crystal Tower, etc.). If someone wants to pull before then, np, swap to Sword Oath and DPS accessories before engaging. They can get yelled at for locking people out. 8D
