The thing is (feel free to disagree with me on this), elitest do not actually need in game parsers to do just that. I do understand SE's thought on it though. Here is the underlying problem, Elitest are using external parsers with simulated damage in them and using them as their basis/ While they cant flat out say how they got their number's, they can still tell people they are bad, leave or kick people from parties, and use gear and even platforms as a basis to judge people. adding a parser is more of a qauilty of life change for the playerbase as a whole that wont increase the amount of elitest or thier actions

    Possible Alternative

So, instead of giving you an active read-out, why not encourage proper rotations via Striking Dummies and the Gold Saucer?

    Here's what I imagine:

    Striking Dummies:

Implement a quest about an aspiring mathematician needing vast amounts of data to complete a "Theory of Quantified Everything!" Upon completion of the quest you recieve a calculator minion (think solar powered calculator with legs) and the ability to engage "phantom recollection."

"Phantom Recollection" is an option while using a striking dummy that does three things.

    1) it records data such as damage, dot overlap, and GCD use for a set period of time (you can specify 1 min, 3 min, 8 min, 16 min).

    2) it allows you to save this data for previous attempts and recall it for comparison. Perhaps it gives you a Key Item or item that contains the data for viewing upon use.

    3) it allows you to run "Phantom Recall" which displays your character, doing your abilities, based on the saved record.

    Gold Saucer:

    (Knights of the Round)

Implement a basic trial which has a Zodiac Brave doing, essentially, a pre-set version of a "Phantom Recall." Your first objective is to out-perform the zodiac brave. His stats are set to be the same as yours, but his rotation is 90% of the optimal. He appears while you do your run and you must out perform him in order to unlock the next component.

Once you've completed this trial, you're allowed to participate in a weekly ladder challenging the "phantom" of whomever is #1 on the ladder. If you can beat them, you become the new phantom AND there's a purse to be had. This could be tied to a coliseum.

These systems don't require active read-outs so reading of virtual memory is unnecessary. Furthermore, the data can be sewn into your character data/inventory, and accessed w/o requiring server interactions.

What do you think? It's not modeled to be a raid panacea, but it wouldn't hurt right?

I know that given this line from a later post:

So I have to wonder why you're quoting that line specifically as some sort of sweeping rebuttal. Hell one of the next sentences in the post you quote points out the very same thing you're responding to me about.

Why not just gate endgame upgrade mats to performance? Hit par get a fragment that you can trade in for the whole item after getting enough. Hit above par, get more proportionally to how much you've beaten the par. Attain near optimum get the item outright.

the biggest issue with external parsers is they use the chat log, which isnt always accurate. sometimes that log will fail to display numbers which are important for real accuracy which is why people are begging for an official one. many argue that these external parsers are fairly accurate but they can only be as accurate as the data they receive. the simulated dats is for the things they cannot get from the log like DoT spells.

I assume this is part of the reason Yoshi-P and crew are hesitant to release the API and we still don't have addons(ofcourse the addon thing could really have something to do with the PS3 memory limitations) because they don't want the makers of these external parsers to be able to get that accurate data.

Both of the parsers read damage numbers directly from client memory now, so hitches caused by the combat log's ambiguity generally don't exist any more. The only situation where a parser could drop numbers is if they somehow aren't posted to the client by the server entirely, a thing likely to break several things in the game if it were allowed to happen on a level that would make parsers inaccurate.

An official one would still be nice for things like dots and damage that somehow isn't sourced to its player, like Shadow Flare.

I think the biggest issue i have is their reasoning behind not adding parsers.Elitist players are going to find other reasons to be elitist. it has happened well before parsers were a thing and will continue to happen. Basically we are denying a tool because of what 1 group of people may be with it. Regardless of the fact that those same group of people would do the same thing if the tool existed or not. Will literally have no baring on the actions they take.
