Why doesn't everyone screaming for a story mode just go ahead and admit that you don't want a game. You just want a kawaii catgirl simulator, right?

It was a rhetorical question. Thanks for the high school economics lesson though.Because opportunity cost is why. Everything ever made on this planet takes time and energy. Every dollar and manpower minute spent on story mode is a dollar and manpower minute taken from something else. You can't just "have both" because time and energy are things you don't get back. It's really not complicated.
edit: On topic, previously in this thread I mentioned I hadn't even tried turn 5 because of the general attitude of endgame players on this game. Well, I wanted to see what all the fuss was about and if it was really that hard or not, so I watched a few videos and queued up for turn 5. This is what I get when I entered the duty:
There was more further down where the guy was laughing at another guy just for having soldiery gear. Who even wants to try this crap with people like this? It's hard enough as it is learning the mechanics, you have to do it with these types making it even more stressful. Yeah you can make a group on your own, make a static, use FC members, etc. But one of the arguments that seem commonplace in this thread is what about those that don't go that route and use DF instead (people like myself).

Except there's a key difference people ignore. When they made coil 1-5 did they make it for BG and that tiny sliver of hard core raiders? NO. Look at how many people have now experienced some or all of 1st coil. Every day more people set foot in that content that USED to be for hard core raiders. Is coil 6-9 for hard core BG raiders? Initially yes, but ultimately no just like 1st coil.I see the point people make. Bad or not. I just wanted to point out that. You can't trash "story" reasons because "that could be spent elsewhere", while people are asking for more difficult raids which would raise the exact same argument. If an argument can be used on both end of the rope, you are going nowhere with it.
The key difference is that NEW cutting edge content starts at the hard core and trickles down to more and more people over time as people gear better, mechanics become public knowledge, a pre designed echo buff is tacked on, ilvls go up. Etc etc.
Compare that to retrofitting old content for the stragglers. Every time someone beats t5 that pool of stragglers shrinks.
Dev time for a small and continuously shrinking population that is largely a 1 and done content (no replay value in a story fight).
Vs.
Dev time for brand new content that will initially only be used by BG, but then the hardcores. Then the medium cores. Then the sofrtcores. And on down the line.
New content is ultimately available to virtually everyone in time. The "content is only for a small sliver " argument does NOT go both ways in this instance. If it did then only hard core BG style raiders would have touched t5, but instead the use of that content has been EXPANDING ever since it was made. Story mode will shrink over time. Until you can show otherwise it is, bluntly, a poor use of time.
While true in a way, you also need to consider what's the development time vs use ratio
story mode : very little dev time (all you ultimately have to do is to reduce some values and/or cut out some attacks to make it safe for anyone) for a content everyone will experiment (100% use) but probably only once.
new content : huge dev time (obviously. This is what it takes to do great things) for a content ewer and fewer will experiment with the current trend (next tier locked behind older one's completion).
Obviously, actual numbers would be great to determine wether or not it's worth the time it would take (Yoshida himself said he wanted everyone to experiment the story, so it's not really a "poor use of time" per say btw). But in any case it will never be "a waste" as long as it doesn't fail horribly in it's purpose (noone ever doing Coil story mode for whatever reason).
just so you don't think I avoided the argument :
The "content is only for a small sliver " argument does NOT go both ways in this instance. It does with the current way of dealing with the raids. Every new tier locks behind those who can't beat the previous one, leaving ultimately noone but the very few super raiders. Let's hope the new raid (after TCoB) won't require a T13 kill.
nvm and thx for the info

The guy in the screenshot's grammar is atrocious and I would tell him to go back to school to learn how to write. He, or she, must have many bad players to assume that kind of thing.
It won't require the final Coil of Bahamut to be completed. If I wasn't lazy, I'd go find the quote that says they won't gate 3.0 content behind completing 2.x content (raid-wise).
Given the sheer amount of rage-quitting that goes on, I think they should add something like this with the expansion coming soon.
I believe that time for story mode is when the new raid content comes.
Story mode should be easy, but it should offer no drops and no achievements.
The only open turns that are "difficult" atm are 5 and 9 because of instant death/lose mechanics. With ilv increase and echo coil the open coil turns are reeeeeeeaaaaalllllyy easy. I understand people just want to go through for story but at point its really becoming more of people just want to watch CS and not even play the game. At that point may as well just go look it up on youtube. If 5/9 and final coil get adjusted like t7 did then theres your story mode, if thats still too hard then people honestly just need to put a little time into getting better. By time SE would get around to putting a story mode in were all gonna be lv 60 and crazy over geared anyway. On a side note looking at this issue from a dev perspective, coil is done content. Allocating resources and server space to make/host even carbon copys of existing content that will be largely ignored afterwards seems fiscally irresponsible. Its better to dedicate time and money Alexander which has already been planned with the split people want.
TLDR: no point making coil story mode its too late and waste of time/money. By time SE can push it out players will be lv60/overgeared.

Really? people still want an easier t5? it was face roll with 5 percent echo and i90 its up to like 20 or so now and everyone is wearing 110 minimum. All i can say is damn... just damn
