this ^ i found light grinding the most boring part of the relic upgrade the zodiac phase is actually quite fun for me
While I am tired of running Haukke HM for the 19th time, I agree that the Zodiac questline is perfectly fine the way it is. This is a relic weapon after all, it should be harder to get. It is nice when you get lucky, which I was with Aurum Vale and Dzemael thankfully, but it should be something that you must strive for. Even though the people who got lucky on the zodiac step got it quicker, chances are the next step or their next relic they may not be so lucky.
The relic is meant to be designed around a grind. It gives that old school "annoying" mmo feel to the game for the people that miss it. You have 3 types of weapons in the game, primal weapons which can be obtained from mid-tier bosses, raid weapons which can be obtained from high end bosses, and relic weapons which can be obtained from grinding. The system in place is an attempt to please everyone, and it does a very good job at it whether people are satisfied with their current weapons or not. If you do not want to grind, do not do relic, it is that simple, there are other weapon choices for those who choose to not want to deal with the RNG grind. There's no such thing as well designed RNG. It's called random for a reason. To be honest, the whole relic quest is full of really terrible design choices. Think about how it starts. We get a weapon, we meld it, we kill enemies, we fight primals and unique bosses. We get Thavnarian Mists from tomes...
...and then it all falls apart to RNG. Atma's can take hours to find even with the new 'enhanced' drop rates, Fates for Animus books can take hours just to show up, Dying to the last boss forces you to redo the dungeons. Then you need 75 alexandrite. Then light farming, which is arguably the most frustratingly lengthy part of the whole quest. And that's before this new latest step and it's RNG drop rates.
Honestly, I don't know why people keep defending it. A bad mechanic is a bad mechanic. It's what developers do when they either don't have the time or the inclination to add something with more meat to it. They have so many better means at their disposal, as proven with countless other quests and items. Apparently some lessons are never learned no matter how many mistakes are made.
I agree, its especially better when your working on the second one, for the same reasons you supplied. Being able to work on it the same time you get light is really amazing. You even get lights from the pre50 ones. And that is HUGE imo, because now you feel like your getting something for doing AV, even though there is no tomes. On that point they should give some other reward for 50+ people doing low lv dungeons. The low lv roulette is good, but need something else for just picking a dungeon in the list.
Nope. I ignored Atma until the drop rates got lowered, ran 40 fates, got nothing.
I'm never touching the zodiac quest as long as it's run off RNG bull. The main reason i stick with FFXIV's endgame is because it's objective based, not RNG based like 90% of the MMORPGS out there.
If you don't like RNG, this is most certainly the rightest game you can be playing right now. Zodiac isn't even necessary, you can run objective trials and get equal if not ever-so-slightly weaker gear.
I quite liked zodiac, it was infinitely better than the mindnumbing light grind.
The drop rate is generally decent, you don't HAVE to the same dungeon over and over, that's why there are multiple quests to work on simultaneously.
i like it i like that they make us do a variety of dungeons
light grind cool. atma fates horrible
0/56 on voidwave from Haukke Manor. Finished every. other. part. of this. Have all my items and earned enough soldiery to buy another set worth of Waters. RNG is RNG and is bad at times.
Hey do you happen to live nearby a dinnery? Screw that.. I dont want to walk more than 1km to get to dinnery.. It's wasting my time when you can get it just within delivery range.. Life is unfair..So after running CP HM for the 4th time now and no item just the thought of all the other 10 dungeons I need to do I'm like screw that. I don't wana waste my time on a weapon that someone luckier then me got it waaay before me but started waaay after me and it's just not fun running these dungeons for a small chance. Maybe if it was 4 or 6 dungeons then yeah but nearly all of them? that's a piss take I find. So I'm leaving it till they update the drop rate for dungeons.
Anyone else leaving this in the same manner as I am?
