Keeps people from throwing bodies at a problem, and provides an ongoing source of demand for the crafters.

No it doesn't... Crafters have plenty of other things to do...like ya know...crafting the majority of the items in the game.

You shouldn't ever have to pay that much for the repair of a single item. In that case, your problem is the lack of crafters paying attention, and not the amount offered. Here are the NPC costs for Dark Matter, which should give you an idea of how much to offer:

    Grade 1: 100 gil
    Grade 2: 600 gil
    Grade 3: 1500 gil
    Grade 4: 2800 gil
    Grade 5: 4500 gil

Yeah, I mean, it's great that crafters have such diversity, but there's still plenty for them to do. There is definitely far more for crafters to do in this game than other MMOs, if nothing else. That said, as I posted earlier (top of page 3), I wouldn't mind keeping crafter repairs around, so long as it maybe offers a sort of bonus to encourage crafting repairs, and gear can be repaired to 100% through other means.

This is kind of a minor issue in the grand scheme of things, but still something I'd like to see improved eventually.

Exactly! its not at all needed please tell me what advantage there is to having gear dmg?
It doesnt add to any imersion or to the fun of the game micro management is cool if its management of tons of cool gear, but this one is just unnecessary. Having to constantly check if your sword is broken isnt at all fun.

All it does is make crafting a must if you dont wanna waste time searching for ppl to fix your ish, and I'm a firm believer that crafting should be a hobby in game and they need to tone it back alot 5-6 full classes devoted to crafting/collecting is dumb, especially since there is only 6 (generic ass) battle classes you actually play with.

FFXI's crafters where the riches mofo's in the game, and crafting in that game was optional completely because there were so many options that it never fell to "damn nothing else to do but craft leves" =/

FFXI made ppl want to craft, but XIV is trying to make it where ppl have to.
XIV already has the most extensive dedicated crafting system in any mmo, bordering on the lines of being a damn "crafting sim" rather then an mmo and to me i rather see that effort put elsewhere lets say.... battle classes for craps sake and gear variety ect.
