Question about Cartenau and West shroud from 1.0

Not sure if it should be in lore or general.. I know the lore Q&A said West Shroud went "poof" (in a sense). Carteneau Flats is a pvp zone. However for anyone who was playing in 1.0, where were the two zones in relation to each other?

Given the description of what may be in the ruins. If they are regionally in proximity to each other in current 2.XX maps. One could argue that whatever is left of West shroud could be used as a isolated back door into Carteneau. All I know was Carteneau was somewhere in Mor Dhona and that part of the Shroud was around that lake somewhere.

I never played 1.0, but has anyone tried to complare maps to see how much was moved around or kept in about the same section (give or take) in these areas?

Cartenau wasn't in 1.0 at all, actually. It's always just been referenced as a place and never visited outside of PVP. From what I understand there wasn't anything out there of interest then, anyway (inb4 "There wasn't anything of interest in most of 1.0's copypasta zones! Trololol!").

Here's a trace of the Ironheart map with simple English. Between the labels for Mor Dhona and Thanalan you can see Cartenau to the west. You've got pretty much the whole of Mor Dhona in the diagonal space between Cartenau and the Shroud. Now, the South Shroud is between where the Hathoeva River dumps into the southern of the two large bays of Rothlyt Sound. I guess that maybe puts the West Shroud somewhere around the middle forks of the White Maiden, perhaps. That should be sufficient for the connection West Shroud had to Mor Dhona at the north-eastern corner of Silvertear Lake in 1.0.

West Shroud didn't go poof literally though. It's still there, in fact, you can see it looking west from Central Shroud (near spriggan camp) or looking south from North Shroud (where the golems are). In fact we "travel" through west shroud when going the Central->North road (even though there is a zone line, if you expand the in-game map you can see the true distance traveled).

Basically West Shroud was utterly destroyed by the shard of Dalamud that resides at the southern edge of the North Shroud. If you look westward at night you can see the giant aether crystals glowing yellow in the distance. You will also notice that all trees have been razed (damage leaked into Central and North) so we can assume the whole zone is a burnt, barren, rocky wasteland that can't support life. Hopefully one day we can formally step foot in it and not zone through it (same to the rest of the Coerthan Highlands and Lowlands)

    Are you meaning this?

I don't think thats actually part of Dalamud. Still though, West Shroud was pretty messed up by the fall of Dalamud, as evidenced by the huge shard sticking out of the ground near Fallgourd Float, I imagine that Gridania is working with the elementals to try to perhaps restore West Shroud.

Also, I was the one who asked the West Shroud question way back when!

Where they shall discovered a gelmorran ruin shedding some light on the War of the Magi and so opening the door to 3.0's plot.

Not quite - that structure looks very similar to masses of corrupted crystal that appeared to be the frozen remnants of Bahamut's attacks after he burst out of Dalamud during the Calamity, at the Salt Strand in Lower La Noscea, and Dalamud's Talons in Northern Thanalan.

Also, the West Shroud actually appears to at least be partially intact, based on dialogue during the ARR Gridanian storyline:

Given the fact that Galfrid mentioned in that scene above that the Ixal are raiding the area, and that the Wood Wailers and God's Quiver patrol it, shows that at least part of it is still accessible. But of course, whether we ever will get to explore it is a completely different barrel of moogles.

Looking closer at it, you can see it's definately a different colour to the more orangey corrupted crystals.

Well, they went 'up' in 3.0, so they could always go down. Or to one of the other continents.

They could allow us access to the beastmen lands with Gyr Abania (Ala Mhigo) to cover the same ground as when we head "up" in 3.0. Pagl'than (Amalj'aa), Xelphatol (Ixal), and O'Ghomoro (Kobold) remain unexplored, and there could be something in the Indigo Deep, maybe. I expect we'll be going to Thavnair at some point, as well. Perhaps some of the areas mentioned by the Wandering Minstrel?
