I'll just stick to Hyur, Miqo'te and Lalafel forever. Seems new races will always be Hyurs cosplaying (or with their face hit by a truck in Roe's case).

Yes. I'm with the disappointed crowd who expected something more beastly. But only for males. It would have made sense to keep the females "cute". In games where beast races are playable the female counterpart are always a lot more niche if they're not humanoid enough. But the males ones appeal in the 'badass' factor. Nothing more nothing less.

I have to disagree with the apologists using "it's a japanese game aimed at japanese fans" as excuse for this.
A lot of japanese RPGs have playable "Beastly" male (or female) characters. Just to name a few:
Final Fantasy X, IX, VI too if you count Mog. Final Fantasy Tactics Advance series. Breath of Fire I~IV (heck Garr is arguably the 2nd most popular playable character in III). Chrono Cross. The Mana series. Phantasy Star IV. Shining Force I~III. The Shining series in general.
