As others sometimes stated, I feel this mkre has to do with the age of the player and just that as a people, I think are becoming less likely to socialise. I always start with a "Howdy doody!" and I usually finish with a "GJ all!" or a "Shame on us all" if we wiped twice or more on a low level dungeon.

I'm sorta in the middle. If I expect it's a speedrun, I just want the hello and goodbye BUT I do find chatting makes a slow hurdle less of a grind. I've had a few dungeons where the healer or tank might be abit undergeared which slows the whole game down but if we chat and joke through it, it doe'snt feel like a chore. All in all, I guess I'd prefer more chat. Always makes a session more memorable!

I.. have really started noticing this more and more and all.

Most of the time I open with a greeting.. and press on if at least one person answers. But if I'm just met with stony silence.. I tend to apologise and leave. It's too uncomfortable to be bothered about a 15 minute wait to try again finding a group will at least say hello. Chatting with people in the DF is an even rarer blessing..

I'll say hi at the start, but I don't usually have time to type out any kind of full discussion due to needing to deal with whatever's currently pulled.

I say hi and move on. But is anyone's hi more like a "Hi - let's get this over with"?

I DO feel bad for the OP. I do enjoy the silly, chatty occasionally (very rarely) join DF. Poor OP be like when no one answers him/her :

I play on PS4, was on PS3. Before I got a keyboard I wouldn't really say anything because it took far longer for me to type things out on the keyboard, and I was even pretty fast at it. I didn't like holding others up.

Now, I always at least give greeting and a farewell. If I make a mistake I will apologize for it, even if no one responded to me in the first place. I will also usually give out congrats for leveling up. If the rest of the party is quiet, I won't really say anything else, sometimes omitting the congrats scenario since they don't seem to particularly care. If others are chatty I'll try to have a bit of conversation, but in critical moments I can't really just put my controller down and type on my keyboard.

Long story short, I am always amicable to those I come across in the DF. I certainly like it when others are too, but as this thread has made clear, most people just don't care. I get their reasoning, though I still find it disappointing. It really, REALLY does not take long to type "hi" and "bye, thanks" at the end.

I suppose it's just different people with different attitudes though. I just move on and hope for a better group next time. /shrug

I feel bad for the OP, too. Coming from 8 years of FFXI where people built up server reputations, got to know people in (hours long) xp parties, etc... FF14 seems rather barren in the social aspect of play. Unlike someone in the thread mentioned, there really is no real reason anyone ever truly has to use the DF, I believe. I used to, but got so bummed with all the silence from others and all the rushing, that now I just have a static to cap poetics each night using the EX roulette, and do everything else with FC members or players on my server, only. I hate the thought process of "I'll never see them again - they're just like NPCs' -- the throwaway mentality that seems to see the people you play with, even for an hour or less, as non-people, basically. Sorry I'm not on the OP's server or I'd come and talk your ear off ^^

I feel you OP. This quest line is Zombie Land ES style. After waiting what seems to be forever to run a Df, you then have to run a old boring dungeon. Now that I can light farm at the sme time, it might not be so bad. I hope

Saying Hi in DF is a bit unnecessary since the idea of DF is to do a Duty and leave, unless you see a bonus there really is no need to explain anything or have to see if people know what they do cause the idea behind the whole search function of the DF is to find a group, do it and leave.

But see, this isn't the fault of the player, it's the fault of the design, the act of communicating with players cross-server is lost because there is no way to stay in touch unless you make a char on that server for some reason but even then, there is no guarantee you will ever be grouped with them again.

The social aspect of DF could be improved with a cross-server friend list where players could meet, find players they enjoy playing with and have a way to play again but since this isn't possible, the idea of socializing for a short time with someone for less than 5 mins total if that just seems not worth the time when the odds of running a dungeon with them with the current design of DF is rather low.

To be honest, at least with the MMO's I've played. No, no its not. The sad truth is XIV dungeons are copy pasted offering little more then a change in scenery and different boss mechanics. They were built to be simple and fast and a quick in and out for most parties. Hence the over abundance of dungeons. FFXIV offers something between 40-50 dungeons, vs other MMO's that offer maybe 5-6. The major difference is those 5-6 take a great deal of team work and a lot of communication to pass. Cos of which in those MMO's even if a dungeon finder is offered the players won't use it because they require that communication to beat it. Instead sticking to preformed parties only. XIV differ's because they were meant to be easily and fastly cleared in DF by an average DF group. People know the dungeons take maybe 10 minutes to clear vs the 1 hour+ dungeon clears in other mmos. Get in, get your tokens, get out. Its sad but thats the way it was designed
