In that case, get rid of the MMO aspect and rebrand the game as a big single player game on Steam and consoles for 50 bucks.

Actually, I think that may be part of the problem. Too many players these days try to "beat" this game. Either they "beat" the story and raids by finishing FCoB as quickly as possible (and subsequently grow bored and quit), or "beat" other players by outgearing everyone and pushing themselves into everyone's faces. Many players don't care that there are other real people behind each avatar.
Personally, I blame this speedrun attitude for the lack of socialization. Speedrunners want everything right here, right now, and have no time for frivolous things like "communication". It is disheartening, and quite possibly the major factor in why most people in DF have bad attitude. Simply because the ones with better attitudes are sick of it and go pre-made.
And considering FF14 is probably a first MMO for many, said people don't get the idea of MMOs not having an "end".
I always say "hi" "hello" "thank you all" and even a '"take care" if people are answering. If there's a first timer in our group, I take the time to explain boss mechanics. If I'm the first timer ( most likely with my PLD), I always say I'm new to tanking/speed running this place. Sometimes, people are kind enough to say "it's ok" or "Do smaller pulls if you're not comfortable with this dungeon". When I play my SCH with a new tank, I tell them to take it easy. I apologize when I make mistakes.
I think it's important to communicate, or at least answer to others.
I generally say hello and be polite for the most part but honestly that's about it because there is no point in trying to make friends in the duty finder when there is no form of communication cross server and no way to ever play with each other again. If it was possible to communicate and play with other people from different servers I might be a little more vocal in DF but until then it's not going to happen, I simply want to get the boring dungeon over with and move on.
I always say hello at the start and then a gg and take care at the end. Sometimes I will say other things mid run, but most of the time I don't see anyone else talk, not even a hello or goodbye.
Hunter Steele
I jump a couple of times to indicate my greeting.
not personal kidvideo but I hate when people just jump and jump, silly I know but it annoys me, more when I am tanking, I feel like being rushed
(also I will always think they are WoW players, lame stereotype but I am wired to think that there are characters don't jump in a FF game)
On topic, I love when a party talks, makes the run more memorable, it often happens more when a member is new to the dungeon but yeah, I would like there was a way to "force" people talk more (dunno how, tho)
As I said, it makes me feel rushed like they are impatient enough to thing that jumping makes them faster or something, I don't say is wrong, just saying it annoys me (not in any way more that the ones that run like crazy around the mobs making it hard as a tank to keep the aoe facing away or if the tank runs is difficult to get in position for mnk rotations)
