By the way does anybody know what's the weather required for Wootz Knifefish Zenith? There is no info on XIV.com and in angler some people reported catching it when wheather transitions from fair to fog... is really this transition required or having fog in northern thanalan is enough to have a chance at this fish?

Anyway, based on other sources as well, it seems like it happens when weather transitions into fog.

And I'm fully maxed with supra rod, 399 gathering. Honestly, I wouldn't mind lower catching rates but a bit more guaranteed once you reel in... I got extremely pissed when, in my 5th attempt at the Gobfather, a random elezen came, casted three times, on his third cast, silverfish HQ -> The Gobfather, he had forager's rod and a poorly melded fisher's set, I felt like throwing my controller onto the wall.
I had exactly the same problem with the Bloody Brewer yesterday, 198 bait used, not able to land the catch once. I think you have to approach fishing with the masochistic mindset, and then have a way to vent when it all goes wrong .

That is all there is to it. Everything else are just theories that people make up in their head and then warp their findings around it.
Oh dear lord, i hate having to penta-meld things, but those 100+ melds per piece to get to 3230 perception.............i hate you, i hate you so very very much /sarcasm .

Some fishes have bizarre high rate of escape for no reason other than to make you get frustrated. I don't know why SE thinks they are good design but as proven by some posters they provide significantly unfair advantages to people that quite literally, get lucky and get them on their first few bites. Why unfair? Because the best fishing rod is locked behind catching 106 different big fish out of 112 available and if you get lucky with these dumb fish that seem to have over 80% escape rate, you get free pass to a rod others get stuck trying to get specific fish and fail 40 times.

As for the 2.4 fishing speculation thread, the two opening posts have A LOT of misleading information and drastically incorrect gathering/perception requirement. I do NOT recommend the thread at all if all you are going to do is read the pretty formatted OP posts. The recommended urls are much much better and provide more accurate information.

That said, the most well known high rate of escape fishes that I know of are: Green Jester in Central Shroud, Cornelia in North Shroud. The Matriarch in Coerthas, The Terpsichorean in Eastern La Noscea and Iron Noose in Southern Thanalan.

So far for me the worst is Rivet Oyster wich had goes away 12 times and yet still to get caught (also had run away with 3 of my lures), matriarch just escaped from me 4 times and get it. Cornelia havent bite for me yet on the buff window, also terpsi havent bite (just had found the time window once), havent see the other 2 yet.

There are far more than just three evasive fish. So no one gets a free pass.

Gathering 369 Perception 300 and I see a LOT of the fish gets away messages. Even with food on fish that can be caught with gathering in the 330s.

3 fish left for my rod:

Bombardfish has never hooked over roughly 2000 bait, over god knows how many windows.
Rest are fish that spawn rarely, and Kuno never hooks either.

    RNG is a pain sometimes.

Nowhere in my post did I say there's only 3. But the ones I listed are the ones that are most notorious for being evasive. Many fish only have 10~20% evasive rate but you can run into a bad spell with them regardless, it doesn't make them highly evasive however. Also without FC buffs or Ironworks you can catch all but 1 fish, Nepto Dragon as it require 403 gathering which you cannot get without one or the other.

That was really not what I experienced. While Cornelia and the Matriarch were a pain, I personally fished the Terpsichowhatever and Iron Noose on my first try. On the other hand, all these fish escaped MULTIPLE times: Rivet Oyster, Joan of Trout, The Sinker (<- this one was BRUTAL), The Gobfather, The Lone Ripper, King of the Spring, Olgoi Khorkhoi, Charon's Lantern (<-very evasive lantern also), The Drowned Sniper (at least got away 8-9 times), Anomalocaris (4-5 times away too)...and I'm not even mentioning the legendaries. While I got Kuno and Heli on my first try, Endoceras and Namitaro easily escaped 10 times each, and Nepto Dragon escaped around 13-14 times before I got him.
So no...there are not just 4-5 evasive fish, at least not from my experience (I'm at 109/112 now).
