People figure out they can obtain the wedding in the game with gil only, and are angry about it.

Makes perfect sense.

The big difference is real money is still involved. The naive players, or perhaps just too hopeful, thought it would only cost gil because they didn't specify on the always vague previews they do, as in only in game gil without real money transactions involved at all.
