They aren't silly what-so-ever. The simple fact that people would rather receive an item in-game rather that use real life money makes zero sense to you? This game doesn't have just endgame raids, there's alot of non-combat content that were now starting to get forced to pay for.

Really? Please point out which content are now starting to get forced to pay for? Unless to you items = content. You equate endgame raid as content, then proceed to say that content are being forced to pay for. I don't see any content being gated by cash shop.

The chocobo/dresses that are part of the platinum wedding package have been shown as part of the wedding system in game before the cash shop even existed. They've been hyped as part of the marriage system since ARR was in beta.
