No, I was not aware of it being a standalone app, as that was not initially mentioned and, from the source you included seems to be fairly recent news.

And yet this isn't a single player game, nor is it FF VIII. This is standard fare now for this sort of thing, especially for app games.

Err... Save for the fact of the mentions of it starting in Gold Saucer and having tournaments held there and fighting specific NPCs? It is very much an In-game 'extra'.

There's likely going to be as the OP said, a link between the two. Card transfer or some other level of data interactivity that allows purchases on the app to transfer to XIV for example.

Thats what I'm replying too. The way he is wording it, its focus is like another Hearthstone, which given on the info until now, is not. The app was the outside source, not the other way around.
