You DO know it's not a PART of FFXIV, don't you? It's going to be free via the Square Enix Portal App, and will link up with FFXIV. Meaning you do not need FFXIV to play it, for it is a standalone app.

And due to that will have booster packs which cost.

Well they had to spend money to develop the app, so in-game purchases to cover the costs of a free game and generate revenue after the fact is a decent business model. I don't think it's exactly the same as a lot of the arguments seen lately about the cash shop situation though, since the P2P factor is non-existent for this app.

I think a lot of people on the forums didn't know about it being a stand alone app as well and thus the complaints about it. Its how free cell phone games make their money with in app purchases, its the nature of the beast. If you don't know how cell phone apps work and make their money you should go watch the southpark episode "Freemium isn't Free" They know only around 3-5% of the people who download the game will make a purchase but that is still enough to make a profit and cover their dev costs.

They didn't becuase noone from the XIV team said it.

Until now all they've said is "we are making a triple triad game for gold saucer" now it turns out it's a movile game linked to ff xiv. That's a MAJOR change of wich they still have to tell us something about, because the little info we have about it was said in a japanese SE event.

I'm starting to distrust every single thing Yoshida says in Live Letters and Forum posts, it's been one thing after another, from outright lies, to changes in direction to completely omiting things they don't want us to know until it's "too late" (paid eternal bond for example)

I'll be completely honest here. There is a huge, HUGE team behind all of this. what Yoshi said may just very well come to pass. He stated that Triple Triad will come for Golden Saucer. It still is. But it is coming via another standalone app. What he said isn't exactly a lie, but it's the simple details that was what we were missing.

Might be best to actually wait for the details before assuming things.

Why would you be complaining about more ways to play their card game? If you don't want to play it on a phone or tablet then don't.

Well they hinted and then promised a card game for the Golden Saucer for about a year, guess it's just another one of their typical bait and switches, no surprise there considering the myriad of other moves like this.

Because that's certainly not how it worked in its original form in FFVIII... oh, wait.

Anyway, I don't care if the app has purchases, but if they have separate ones on mogstation it will be even more ridiculous.

And yet this isn't a single player game, nor is it FF VIII. This is standard fare now for this sort of thing, especially for app games.

Err... Save for the fact of the mentions of it starting in Gold Saucer and having tournaments held there and fighting specific NPCs? It is very much an In-game 'extra'.

There's likely going to be as the OP said, a link between the two. Card transfer or some other level of data interactivity that allows purchases on the app to transfer to XIV for example.
